"I think the scientific and the artistic spirit have something in common. The scientist wants not only to learn the facts, but to understand how they cohere, fit together and make a whole. He even uses criteria such as beauty and symmetry to help decide which theory he wants.

The scientist cannot capture the whole cosmos in thought. In his mind he makes a kind of microcosm, which we see as an analogue of the cosmos. In this way we try to get a feeling for the whole. The artist, I suppose, gets a feeling for the whole some other way.”

I liked where I was last summer, but it seems as though each day that passes just keeps getting better and better. 2009 ftw!

Began battening down the hatches about 16 months ago in anticipation of the worst with the economy, so far it seems to have been a complete non event here to being a complete farce. Unemployment around 5.5%, fairly severe housing price slump except a couple of places I seem to own houses and want to buy more... thus total net worth down all of about 4%. "meh"
Which is a bit of a disappointment, I was sort of factoring in a national labor government sending big business broke, depressing the dollar and having lots of unemployed scrubby natives running around on the dole so I could make a few inroads. Either that or the black fella the yanks elected manages to really get the country back on its feet in the next year or two and pump the heck out of the US$. Which, I'm fairly confident in seeing a bounce sometime, even with a bit of recession now. Just have to catch the wave in and BOOM!

Just finished giving a 30 hour advanced sales and elementary management course this week for my old boss's employees, paid fairly well but I now have a splitting headache and my throat really hurts.

Meh, it's been all right. Years are running together a bit, keep feeling like I need to make some sort of change.
