Pray tell what these "wrong reasons" were.

My point stands, he wrote an excellent book on the aftermath of the invasion of Iraq which I'm assuming you haven't read or have dismissed, and has spent a lot of time all over that region talking to people there from all walks of life.

Regardless of his credentials he has a better handle on that area of the world than anyone posting in this thread.

The people know it too hence the protests.

Are you for real?
You really think the Iranian people aren't savy enough to figure it out for themselves??
Damn man that's cold and quite paranoid...

Make no mistake about it - those 300,000 Iranians who came out on the streets are all on CIA payroll, and have all been instructed to come out on the streets by Obama himself.

You guys dont seem to get my point. Iam just saying there shouldnt be any surprise if the US is involved in all this indirectly. Yes I agree with fir3starter (for once) the Iranian people dont need anybody from outside to help them stand up for themselves but the US as always likes to stick its nose into other countries politics.

... if you want to call that abortion in Iran an "election", I understand what you're saying. Nevertheless, it's still not Obama's place to "meddle" in Israel's business either regardless of your opinion on the "occupation". He can't have it both ways (but does of course). Why not mention the fact that over the years, "Israelis have allowed more than 100,000 Palestinian Arabs to occupy tens of thousands of illegally constructed housing units in eastern and northern Jerusalem... have built their illegal settlements on land owned by the Jewish National Fund."

I'm not trying to fire up the Israel/Palestine debate with you here... there are threads already created for that. I'm just making the point that it doesn't matter what side of the issue you're on, or I'm on... Obama can't talk on one hand about not meddling in Iran's affairs, and then go tell Israel they need to stop building settlements on the other hand because that's meddling.

The occupation in question happens to be against international law. Actually, it looks more like a gradual annexation of the Palestinians territories. That is an international issue. Israel and Palestine ask for American involvement in any one of their accords. Iran is a completely different story. What do you want us to do? Send in the navy seals? The first hint of American involvement will end this movement.

It also isn't just Obama asking them to stop building settlements. It's the UN and numerous other countries. Even George Bush.

I think hardcore trancer actually has a valid point here.
While I don't think the US is directly responsible for staging a coup, we don't know what's happening behind the scenes. We do know that Obama being elected president in the US has given young educated Iranians hope, and I wouldnt be surprised if they read up or saw his speech from Cairo. Furthermore, behind the scenes US officials may have met some of Mousavi's contacts in some part of Europe, or Asia, or perhaps they've used the Swiss embassy in Tehran as a backdoor to communication. Basically, they've tried reaching out to one another, which is different from being responsible for a coup.
In regards to Israel, the last thing the ayatollahs and revolutionary guards would want to see is Israel having peace with more of its Arab neighbors, and especially the Palestinians. Peace doesnt happen overnight, but Israel's now been at peace with Egypt for as long as there's been a "revolution" in Iran, and for the past 15 years it's had peace with Jordan. Many believe that in the coming years, during Obama's term in office, Israel and Syria will finally make peace. You don't think young Iranians pick up on that? You don't think it makes them wonder why if those countries can have peace with Israel that Iran cant too? They may not remember this, but back in the 1970s there were direct flights between Tel Aviv and Tehran. There wasnt just peace between Israel and Iran, but there was also business trade taking place.
