lol i've mentioned the maid thing. i even told him he can pay me $20 per visit and i'd go there once a week and clean up for him which is fucking cheap. he's not really balling these days because obviously people are broke w/ the economy and can't afford new custom kitchens (he has a shop and builds custom cabinets) but i mean his house is paid off and i'm pretty sure his truck is too. he'll sit there and spend $200 on weed and then gripe about being broke. he pretty much spends all his money on weed and going back to canada once a month.

i really dont know what i'm thinking, trying to get him to quit smoking weed when he has a fucking marijuana leaf tatooed on his leg

I think you're focusing too hard on the weed. It can't be cheap going back to Canada every friggin' month! And if he's traveling to Canada THAT often, and you say he met a girl while he was there, I think it's clear what the catalyst for his depression is.

omg of course it's the weed. sometimes people get like that when they smoke too much or start smoking for bad reasons (to constantly escape reality).

i smoke every day (in the evenings) and my place is spotless and i go to work every day and run errands and manage to squeeze in a few hobbies like painting and gardening. i also go out with my friends and out to dinner...you get my point.


all he does is sit home and smoke weed and let garbage accumulate and play video games and feel sorry for himself/think of canada. he's in a rut and i basically think the weed is the icing on the cake and he needs to drop it for a while. every pothead needs to do a little detoxing once in a while. i'm quitting after this weekend so i can have a fresh mind for real estate school in mid september.

on a better note, my best friend just called me and told me he got a 27 ft boat for 2 days in the keys for $350 from this rental place he rents from every time he goes down there. we're gonna leave at 3 a.m. on friday night/sat morning and drive down and get the boat and go to an island and set up tents and camp out for one night and go boating/fishing/snorkeling the whole next day. we're gonna invite our pothead friend, i think he needs to get out and have a vacation and be reminded of how beautiful it is down here. i mean minus the people and it's fucking paradise.

You laugh, but I promise you that the weed is only a symptom of his real problem. It's clear based on your posts that you won't listen to that little tidbit of wisdom (my pothead friend, the weed makes him broke, weed this, pothead that, pot pot pot), but it's the truth.

i know but can't you at least agree that quitting smoking weed for a while could greatly improve his motivation like having a more clear mind and taking better care of himself and his home? he's in a fog and i've been there. he needs to clear the fog in order to get past the denial phase.


*edit* and i know that quitting weed requires getting over the denial but maybe he can be tricked into quitting smoking because he's going to be excited or focused on something else? like a diversion lol

I can't agree with that because quitting weed didn't help me at all when I was going through my own personal experience with depression. I quit the weed, and it STILL felt like my mind was in a constant fog.

IOW, it didn't make one hell of a difference, except that after quitting, I was even more miserable because I didn't have my coping mechanism available to me when things got bad.

Another thing you may not know, is that he may not even feel all that miserable, so he may not totally accept that he's depressed (since most people picture depression as a being in a state of sadness).

Depression is generally characterized by a lack of general motivation. His messy house, his anti-social behaviour (I doubt he's anti-social, I'll bet he just has no motivation to invite you guys to do things, because, like, who cares anyway?), his likely lack of personal hygiene unless he's going out with people he knows (you haven't mentioned it, but I'm right, aren't I?) are ALL symptoms along with the constant weed-smoke. You may notice, after cleaning his house, that he doesn't get any better. Well the same will hold true if he quits weed. Because it's only a symptom. If you take a decongestant when you have a cold, your runny nose goes away, but you still have the damn cold. Right?

You are correct that he needs something to motivate him. A future goal to work towards and look forward to. Unfortunately, and I'll qualify this by saying that my opinion is based only on the limited information you've been able to provide in your posts, I think he's feeling like he doesn't have a future to work towards in Florida, and it's wreaking havoc on his mental state.

I said in an earlier post that no girl can fix his mental state, and it was only half-right. What I meant is not just ANY girl can get him out of depression. He COULD find the girl who motivates him to be a better man, a girl he desires a future with. And until he finds a girl like that in Florida, or another goal to work towards that gives him a future to look forward to, I think he's going to pine for his life back in Canada, and that awesome girl he met with her arm elbow-deep in cow-shit.

Yup, definately agree with Spam. The weed doesn't do anything to your motivation or goals, it just gets you high. If you go into smoking weed motivated, you will continue to be motivated. He just needs to change something in his life, moving back home might be it.
