I understand his point perfectly well. The problem, however, with the point that he thinks he's making is that he lacks a thorough understanding of the bioethical principles that underpin issues like this and guide the decision making process in our health care system. I mean, really? He truly believes it's all just a government scam to get cash?? Pretty elementary/narrow/uninformed viewpoint. And gathering information that caters to one's personal agenda doesn't make you well informed, it makes you biased, and it's pretty obvious that Jay only looks to validate his own beliefs.

Hygiene, for one. More importantly, the Spanish flu was bird flu, not swine flu. The more recent bird flu is H5N1 but doesn't seem to be capable of human transmission; thus, it's deadly, unlike the swine flu, but not pandemic.

Just as there's nothing to "stop" this strain from mutating into something with a higher mortality rate, there's nothing to "stop" the avian flu from mutating into something more contagious. Or to stop the swine flu from mutating into something less severe, for that matter; death tends to work against faster-acting viruses, such that milder strains are more likely to survive because they get passed on more, and subsequently build up an immunity in their hosts to the stronger strains.

The question isn't really what's stopping it from mutating into a deadlier virus, the question is how likely is such a mutation to occur, and how easily would it be transmitted. Colds and seasonal flu mutate constantly but almost never become fatal on their own.

50 million doses for a population of 35 million...

Ridiculous $650,000 ad campaigns...

Obvious media fear mongering USA style...

Long history of kickbacks in all forms of government...

It just seems very fishy...

I never trust high pressure tactics...

I'll probably end up paying over 35k in fed tax this year...

This is not where I wanted that money to go...

And Billions Jay? Really? 8$ a flu shot, I'll let you do the math.

8$ a flu shot, and many many more $ every hour to pay thousands of healthcare workers to administer the shots.

THOUSANDS of ppl apparently die from the normal flu every year, its got nothing to do with the vaccine. and i am first hand proof that there is nothing wrong with that shot.

ow this really hurt my head, thanks for helping my hangover

the point is that he's quick to make biased unsubstantiated claims like so many politicians he criticizes!

not really. Those health workers are paid either way. It's not like they hired new resources for this. Some might do some overtime but in the end it's nothing dramatic. I know in Quebec almost every nurse does overtime either way due to other reasons.

I got the shot on Wednesday night. Felt some muscle aches the next day and some fatigue. But that was it. I feel great now. Everyone in the family now got it. My baby daughter and preggo wife. They are fine too and haven't felt any side effects.
