You may think he's done nothing but make golf commercial and mainstream all while raping courses, babies, and the etiquette of the game. However, he has raised the bar of competition to a level that it would have NEVER reached without him. How many golfers before Tiger lifted weights on a regular basis? Probably like 30%. Now it's almost 100%. I can guarantee that every single player on the PGA Tour is a better golfer because of Tiger. |
I will agree that golfers have reached a new level of fitness since Tiger became a professional however; I would suggest the competition level to win is lower when tiger is in the tournament and if he is leading going into the last round it lowers even more. Many pro golfers have said they don't look for the win anymore...they are happy with their second place....now this isn't just because of tiger but also because of the amount of money players make for finishing anywhere in the top ten...but then again...the money wouldn't be so high if tiger wasn't around. Its stupid that someone lke Mike Weir, who hasn't won a damn thing this year, still makes $2,379,422.

You can argue that the increased crowds and green fees are annoying - and even that some people driven to the course by hype rather than passion for the game are annoying as well. However you can't generalize that everyone who was inspired by Tiger has no etiquitte.
I'd like to think that golf has made some of those inspired people better citizens - golf teaches a lot of great values.
Also, you can complain that tournaments become centered around him, but it's only because he's the best golfer of all time and people find it engaging to watch him perform. If you don't find watching him engaging, you are in the minority and the media will never cater to you - unless a Tiger-free golf channel sprouts up! |
Tiger is treated differently then all other golfers on the tour....they handle him with kid gloves and god forbid do anything to piss him off. He plays in the minimum number of events he has to in order to keep his card. Personally, I don't find him all that interesting to watch. Besides being the leader in Money Won and Wins he isn't in the Top 5 for any important stats. It will be interesting to see how well he plays next year when all golfers have to go with horizontal grooves....it will make it impossible for him to go for the green out of the thick rough he tends to play in because he can't hit fairways.
