I hate to go all "I read it in a book" but there is noting more scary to a nerd to get what he desires most, aka a hot girl. Behind the safety of phone or the internet he is brimming with self confidence, but irl life with the possibility of physical contact with the opposite sex, especially a girl who's hot and sexually the aggressor, is utterly terrifying. This situation is similar to the average guy who is intimidated by the hot girl at the bar and can't muster enough courage to talk to her.

You guys seriously underestimate the power of being nice as a strategy for pulling chicks too.
