The thing is that people think attraction/interest is automatic, but it isn't. After the lust and infatuation phase end, it becomes a conscious decision to have desire for a partner and build intimacy with them/take in interest in them. That's the "work" that people in long time relationships are always talking about. It doesn't have to be hard, however.

When a very serious issue arises and tests your relationship - a fight, a problem that keeps resurfacing, a broken promise - if you are pushed to the very edge and think that it might be over, but then through some means, your relationship is saved ... mind-blowing sex
