Laptops can not match iPad in terms of comfortability. The typical netbook weights 2.5 to 3 lbs. It's not as easy to type on laptops. It also does 10 hours of battery life.
Of course, this battery life and ease of use comes at the price of crucial functionality, such as running multiple apps, any of the reasons griped at in this thread, and expensive battery replacement.
Laptops may have more functionality, but the iPad is not filling their space. Apple is trying to fit the space between mobile phone and laptop. I congratulate Apple on building products that fill underdeveloped markets. Their products create a lot of third party businesses, and promote competition. How soon until we see a DJ app on this thing? Hopefully it will promote innovation in multi-touch technology.
I'm not going to get one though.
