I think that a large part of your issue with other producers lies right here in this assumption - not everybody is trying to "make it" and people have widely varying definitions of exactly what "making it" means. I'd say that most EDM producers are in it simply for the joy of making music and having the opportunity to have something that they created heard by others. That's no different now than it was decades or even centuries ago.
In many ways, EDM is the new folk music - its core is largely comprised of people with little musical knowledge or formal training and, therefore, gets sneered at by those with years of training and experience who are making more "sophisticated" music. It's relatively simple music that is created by common people for common people. And, like folk music, it has earned its place as a legitimate musical form, despite what the snobs think of it, largely as a result of its achievability by virtually anybody. With that said, one of the biggest problems with EDM in my opinion is the attitude of EDM producers toward each other.
