Hi all,
I think even the most loyal Oakenfold/Perfecto fans will have slightly different views although we all will continue to love him. Overall, PP and Armada are good changes for both generic listeners and die hard fans as each hour is made up of 16 tracks instead of 10-12.
-For generic fans, they can hear how Paul fit Armada tracks or Armada sounding tracks into his set, for me it is much more interesting than listening to Podcast that sticks into only this sound as Paul's set has more variety.
-For die hard fans, including myself who always keep up to date to his new remixes, track, projects, the 'repeated tracks' has become less obvious due to the larger number of songs in each hour. (I like and encourage Paul to put his new projects: including mainstream remixes and sountrack work into his set... as he came from different background as opposed to other DJs and has more cards on his hands on different genre)
-Besides Paul's own hard work on keeping up-to-date lately, Perfecto A&R (KT and others) have to be credited for listening to tracks as well.
-Overall, PP is a good change. But Paul's hard work before PP to spice up his 10 track hourly sets are not to be ignored as well. I am just truly greatful that Paul has been and continue to work hard like the rabbit in the battery advert no matter how time and sounds have changed!!

Just compare the PP & Oakenfold's live from Rain NC (NYE 2011). POT was not the same but it was similar the live sets |
I have to say I agree with you - But I don't listen to ASOT.
I despise the AVB track - "This light between us"
The chord changes, the voice, I don't think Oakey would have played that before the deal. That said, for me, there are MANY more positives than negatives from the deal.
I really don't like that Planet Perfecto Danny Tenaglia 'Exclusive' - [which he also plays in his recent Global Groove set] I hope he doesn't start playing exclusives, for exclusives sake!
It's a great track, but not in an Oakenfold set is all!
Oakey says he plays 'To the crowd' - which is WHY I find the Russian viewpoint interesting, - because you are all so awesome and helpful on here, and also vocal - I've only ever heard him in the UK and Ibiza but I'd love to hear recordings of how he plays live in different countries. Because when he is in the UK - it is definitely more trancey. Which I obviously prefer. That is not to say I don't like it when it isn't. For the reason Ihor mentions - his track selection is unique and fantastic.
I understand WHY people love Oakenfold in WHATEVER style he plays, for the track selection. I can hear it. But for example, after the first 2 hours of RAIN NYE - which, oddly, Tariq posted on his forum after phoning Oakey - the first 2 hours would be 'commercial.' Then near the start of the 3rd hour - you then hear the track 'TON T.B - ELECTRONIC MALFUNCTION' [Ton T.B is a previous Oakey played producer] which is a 'Cream era' sounding track - and awesome.
And I NEVER got to see him during this era. Too young! - But it sounds RIGHT, to me!
I have to admit, I HATE the fact that he has an A&R team to censor the music for him, it smacks of being lazy! BUT - I can appreciate that they get so many rubbish tracks and it HASN'T affected track selection in any way IMO. So Ihor is right Credit to them
Whatever way, It fascinates me, however people love Oakey. Because it makes me appreciate something I may have missed.

Ihor,
As far as genre goes, trance will always remain an underground genre compare to pop dance with pop star or other pop genre. But I think you are referring to Armada sound as the mainstream trance sound.
I think Paul has always been trying to play tracks from various dance genre/labels on each set but sometimes, when he could not find as many tracks that he like or suitable, he would play more tracks from his own label (now including Armada).
The good news is Armada is made up of many sub labels and even a better strong point to Paul is the way Paul present trance is pretty brilliant and thus PP bring back memory of EM 99 sets in many parts although the tracks played are new tracks.
In AU, 3 stations are playing it, iTunes podcast ranking has risen to higher position as well.
I hope Paul and PP will do well. I also hope Perfecto artists do well and have more releases!!
