The way zip.ca works is very cool.

You choose the type of plan you want. We have the cheapest and therefore we get one movie at a time for up to 2 movies in a month. There is an unlimited option where you get 3 movies at a time, with unlimited movies in a month.

So you go to the website, sign in, and check out the new releases, or some recommended movies from a theme and you create your ZipList. We have about 100 movies/TV shows on out ZipList. Once you have a ZipList, the people send you the movie that is most recently available for you to rent from your list and they send it to you in the mail. It's always something that you wanted to watch since it is in your list so the thought that you don't get to choose is sort of false because you chose your list. The fun part is that it's a surprise in the mail. Once you are done watching, you send it back and wait for the next surprise!

it's 5.99 i think?

I know that. This summer I always went to the Rogers near my house and they give you the option on new releases for 1 day (with service fees for late return) or 7 day (with no service fees for late return). I always pick the 1 day b/c it's cheaper and it ends up being 6 something with tax.

When I moved back to Windsor, I always go to Blockbuster b/c it's closer to me. They also give you the option of two different lengths, but it's 2 days (instead of 1 at Rogers) or 7 days. Again, I pick the shorter 2 day period b/c it's cheaper, and it's 5 something with tax.

Point being, that's it's cheaper for me to rent it at Blockbuster for 2 days than it is at Roger's for 1 day, and I'd rather have it for 2 days.

Get it?

It doesn't sound like it's for me. When I want to rent a movie, I want to do it now...not wait for it in the mail. And the other downside for me would be that what if the movie that's sent to me isn't the genre I feel like watching right now - although still one I want to see? Like if I'm in the mood for an action movie, and I'm sent a romantic comedy that's on my list?

Those are the 2 main reasons why I don't really like the mail in idea with Netflix.

it's understandable and it probably is not for you with the mail thing. but i think that you are looking at it from a negative point of view. you are thinking, what if i wanna watch a movie at this point and i don't have a movie. i look at it from the other side, i have a movie (since it came in the mail during the week), do i feel like watching it right now. we have 2 new release movies right now and they are just waiting for us to watch. when i feel like watching a movie, i have one already. i don't have to go and overpay at rogers/blockbuster.

you don't have to worry about that with netflix. it is a streaming service and therefore you get to choose a movie and it plays right away over the internet. you select and press play. very instant and lots of choice. additionally they have older TV shows that you may have not watched and would need to catch up on.

Wii is a joke.

Does no one like actually seeing their video in good quality? ie. HD!

I don't care if it makes me a TV snob but I fucking hate not having the option of HD and hardly making out what the hell is on the screen.

Oh I hear ya I sacrifice the annoyance of hooking my laptop on to the TV to watch Ninjavideo, for shitty quality YoutubeXL to watch Pawn Stars, which is always connected to the TV.

But I am optimistic Netflix's wii app would provide a better picture than YTXL.

you are pretty optimistic. i have a feeling it may be a bit better but i don't see it being up to HD quality.

even HD youtube on a big TV looks like crap tho. i am not sure if it's the lag or encryption but it is pretty shitty still. youtube HD looks good on the computer but once you put it on a bigger screen, it gets dicey.

Anyone that has a Wii or XBox 360 or a new Samsung TV and likes to watch content from YouTube or even just media from your computer should consider getting PlayOn service.

http://www.playon.tv/index.php

Basically, it is a little program that runs in the background of your Windows PC. It can wirelessly link to your Wii, PS3 or XBox 360 and from these devices you can play the media from youtube or just media from your computer. you don't have to worry about hooking up your computer all the time.

Try it for free for 14 days.

Buy it for life for 80 bucks.

Or buy it for 40 bucks for the first year and 20 bucks for years after.

Some of the things don't work in Canada tho. Like Hulu. But once they do start, this will be sweet.
