That's because funky evolved from UK Garage to begin with. To a certain extent, it carries on the same poppy "sexy" and "glamorous" image that started with 2step, with the same squeaky-voiced women and pop hooks. However, funky has the same strain of people making the very bassdriven and minimal stuff that UK Garage eventually developed also:
If anything, UK funky is now starting to sound more like the old percussive dubby numbers people like Masters At Work were making early on:
dammit. 9 genres I could do something for easily, and I get one of the few I know nothing about. Hopefully nobody else does either, I often hear autonomic as being called 'new idm' so I might just wing it

Autonomic is not IDM. You bring drum 'n bass pointlessly in every other thread, don't bring it up in this mix.
SHIT, Hardstyle? UGH. I hope there's some stuff out there that's more like proper hard trance rather than the clubby shit with a random dude speaking over the track.

it's not idm, but it's "like" it in some ways. I know 2 Aphex Twin tracks and that's it for what's considered IDM. pozz speaks about being able to fuse other things into it but I don't get how it'd be ok to do that with techno or electro & not with something else.

That's because IDM came out of those genres. In the early 90s a lot of producers started putting out weird ambient or experimental B-sides, and IDM basically started when Warp Records was formed as a place just for those weird tracks people were making. Note that pozz says "anything else kinda weird from that era". Autonomic is a brand new trend, it's about a year old, there is no way you can argue it's what pozz is talking about.
And seriously, IDM is one of the easiest genres to research. Even the old stuff is mostly still in print, and all of it has been extensively written about. You can walk into your local HMV and find a dozen IDM albums.
If someone who has been listening to electronic music for as long as you seriously doesn't own or know any IDM apart from two Aphex Twin tracks, it's about time you caught up on some musical education. We all know you're very proud of your daring transition from trance to drum 'n bass, but you've got a great opportunity to dig into one of the most important and influential styles of electronic music.

Regardless of how 'easy' it is to find, I was hoping to get drawn into a genre that I know a bit about already and have stuff of already. I have no money to go buying tracks just for one set, but a good collection of stuff that would fill many of the other genres requirements.
New or not, I don't think something like this would sound too far out of place amongst what I've heard so far. Just luck of the draw, montana, Lews & sand leaper can pull sets from their respective genres out of their arses at anytime and make them sound good. I also note that Lews vetoed UK Funky but it got drawn out still.

Oh man, if only I could trade with Magadansky
I don't know much about psytrance, but it's a fairly easy genre to research and it's one I don't mind... so this should be interesting.

I wouldn't mind trading with someone. I'm not wanting psytrance, but maybe we can squeeze in a trade before the game actually starts? Hardstyle was one of the few genres I actively didn't want.
Edit: Meh, I suppose I'll just stick with it. Trading kinda defeats the purpose.
