Yep, this is a massive accomplishment! Congrats to him

But I find it hard to believe that Joel isn't swimming in money at this point...

If a free, weekend-long electronic music event is cancelled due to lack of vision and general underattendance, how can you believe a large EDM fest on Centre Island would be any more successful?

With the loss of related infrastructure and industry surrounding it, people don't flock to Toronto for electronic music events like they used to. TOTA threads telling Toronto people to check out Montreal's after-hours scene for the real deal should be indication enough as to where we stand in the grand scheme of things.

woah woah woah... when did it get cancelled? so looking forward to it again this year.

I'll answer this properly when I'm at my computer. Suffice to say that it's no surprise, and if you're familiar with the Toronto 'scene' you shouldn't be shocked at the result.

Why not just keep playing out at every chance and pocketing a bigger pay cheque? Is he perhaps regretting the deal he signed with EMI? Is it really that important to have his CD in HMV if nobodys buying it?

because record labels still have distro power in areas that count like tv and radio. As much as these media outlets have been given competition online, they are still the holy grail if you really want to be a well known artist.

people in tornto just dont go out much anymore.

I still dont know why. I guess no one has cash? The traffic downtown is retarded now? The cops harass everyone? The smoking and drinking laws?

All of the above?

If you are interested send me a PM. Since around June of 2010 an event was being planned, but of a Canadian owned company. The company putting on this event is an American rock touring company...a public corporation now wanting to get into the dance music market. The company putting on this event has exclusivity contracts with the venue. For over a year the corporation (venue) was stalling while continuing to analyze plans and things got somewhat sketchy as the board had to be dealt with directly. In June an announcement was supposed to be made to the public, as the meeting to occur in late May prior. It's possible they positioned the event exactly on the first weekend, knowing it would push us out, as November was the intended month, and there's no way we are positioning the event the weekend after let alone in the same month.

I want you guys to know that I tried hard for over a year actually, and ultimately I may have to find another venue OR completely change the plans (re-positioning). The point of this post? Do not get so 'proud' of the mouse DJ for actually accomplishing anything, considering most battles are fought behind the scenes by the businessmen. In the end I will say I'm a promoter for all of you guys, I was born in this city and I'm determined to see your generation get the advantages that weren't given to me, and I'm not going to let a mouse get in the way.

If there are local promoters who read this and don't like this behavior (there's MUCH MORE to the story that I haven't mentioned due to legal reasons), feel free to PM me as we are looking to also employ younger promoters. Have a good summer neighbors!

WHAT?

From the little I could actually understand of this post, it sure sounds like a conspiracy theory.

It does man. I think he's talking about trying to throw larger parties at venues like Ricoh, ACC etc etc

bryce that sounded so cryptic & was you remind me of a guy named Buzz Killington. what you weirdly described sounds like business straight up. on another note, would you like to hear a story about a bridge?
