Pretty muuch this. Putting up defenses keeps out the good as well as the bad. Just learn to deal with getting hurt, and how to spot scumbags, but leave yourself open to all the good shit.

Which is better, expecting everyone to screw you over and live your life cut off from people, or leave yourself open and occasionally get nailed? I'd much rather the latter.
