Carlo Lio

Much busier than I had anticipated, as it IS the long weekend with plenty of options out there. Felt like a two part set that was very Farina-ish in the first half and then dark, hard Calderone-like the second part. But yeah, he is his own man and he showed his funky side and his dark techy side, crowd was eating it up.

Stereo last night, Circus tonight

Seemed like the a/c was extra decent at Stereo too.

I was at Stereo last night for a few hours as well, again... so.. many.. broads last night. Why do hot 22 year olds love Carlo's music? Crowd was cool, more packed then the last time I saw him in February. Very comfortable on the dance floor, AC was nice.

Was there from 2:30-5, Davide's set was pretty cool.. a lot of organic sounds, horns, sax, keys for a nice little portion, but for the most part it was too tech house for my liking. Guess I kinda got bored of that sound, fun to dance to but it tires the ears after a while.

quick synopsis of rock star wknd

Lutzenkirchen & Tone Depth at UN - I knew TD would deliver but Lutzenkirchen was a great booking. Excellent warm up for Carlo and the crowd was great, cute girls and not too packed but busy enough. A Stereo-worthy set from both!

Carlo Lio - good warm up by Sqillace, sure it was deep loungy tech house and a bit slow paced but perfect warm up for Carlo. Carlo converts two more new fans, my friends were blown away. He has the pace, the track selection, the smooth builds and massive drops, the productions, the layer, effects, everything down pat. My fourth time, looking forward to number five already, good move by Stereo to give him a residency as this guy will get everyones feet moving, from the nOObs to the techno elites

Ingrosso at Lamouche - jammed packed, tons of energy and the local schooled Ingrosso. Good techy set by Stef Agostino. Ingrosso was not that good at mixing, imo, and I've actually enjoyed Angello's sets much better than both Axwell and Ingrosso, premixed or not

But with SHM trying to make inroads into the mainstream, their sound is getting far too watered down a la Guetta and Deadmau5. With Guetta, I remember World is Mine being a pretty epic production, he hasn't come close to touching that track. Same thing happening with SHM? Probably...

Digweed at Circus - very dark, very proggy, I liked the set more than the crowd, but that's a personal thing. Also, they still need to tweak the noise at some points but I really appreciate that Circus listens to its customers and is putting itself on the map.

Piknic Electronic - went from 3 to 6PM before the rain started coming down. Smooth deep tech set by Lebaron or Monitor?? Only caught the dirty opening track by MB before running for cover and nap before Carl. That was a terrific three hours in any case. Love the crowd at Piknic, I need to go there more often next year.

Carl Cox at Stereo - way too hot, way too overpacked, way too uncomfortable. Moudaber was excellent and I actually enjoyed her set more. CC's set was a bit flat; however there were some absolute gems in the track selection, very funky Carl set. But by then I had finally ran out of steam as the harsh conditions at Stereo finally used up my last reserves. I left at 830.

In any case, the wknd was easier to accomplish than I originally thought. We ate well, did our supplements like glutamine and multi's, whey shakes etc, didn't drink a lot night before Piknic and we stayed away from Gonzales products so we could actually sleep a bit in-between gigs. This is not something I do often or even recommend but when you have a visitor flying all the way from Van, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do so the person can maximize the wknd.

yours truly, AW.

PS, good sound systems and occasional edm tracks at Wanda's and Kingdom

PPS, anyone who went to Gareth Emery in Ottawa or EZ, feel free to post some comments.
