Wow I can't believe I read that article and this whole thread.

Then again, I know I’m being idealistic to hope for the return of free warehouse raves where it’s all about the love of the music and not about the money

Stop focusing on the mainstream, this stuff is still out there in local scenes. It's nothing new in 2012 or ever. Even back in the "warehouse" days if someone could draw more people than someone else they deserved to get paid. If you want to throw a party no one is forcing you to book the dj's that charge too much but if you want A LOT of people guess what, you have no choice!

The writer shouldn't be taking shots at the "trance family." Even families disagree with stuff and if you put yourself out there to take the heat you better be able to handle the tough love.

It's amazing how brave you can be when you're hiding behind your computer screens and I guess it's just a sad fact of life that there are some people who get their kicks out of scouring the Internet just to be nasty.

If you can't handle offense you should probably get off the internet. Especially when the things you type are so fucking inane.

Ms. Hanagan, quite simply and with all due respect, you are wrong about pretty much everything.

I guess if I'm alluding to anything, it's that dance music - just like football - is becoming too much about the money. A lot of money. David Guetta himself even admitted to selling out!

"is becoming" is the wrong tense

Damnit I want to tweet but then I give my personal info to TA which I just won't let happen. It's funny because she doesn't realize the PLUR comment was sarcastic and just as "mean" as anything else here.

Also it baffles me that people still think they can join any forum and expect to be just cuddled with. Her attitude is an insult to anyone related to trance music, because it implies we don't have any critical sense and are all just PLUR-loving ecstasy-munching rainbow-licking unicorns.

You need a reality check Ellie. And stop being mean to us on your twitter, or else we'll send Jay, VAR and Miss Pie after you.

Well, if you read some of the really old threads here, this forum did start out that way.

So, yea, I guess she set herself up for abuse but at the same time, after putting in a few shots for good measure, it's much more effective to not always assume OP is a link spam+run kind of poster.

I talked with OP briefly and told her she was in the wrong to just come here and post a link and leave it at that. She came off not being familiar with the forum environment (relative to say twitter/blog world).... I guess that's one thing a lot of us (who have been here a long time) have yet to realize and that is that Twitter-land is much different...you may get the occasional rude comment but since your 'tweets' only go out to your followers or certain hashtags you are insulated. Forums are threaded and discourse is required... merely replying with a "+1" (RT equivalent) does little to move the conversation forward.

That said, some DJs get paid too much for the shit they play but if promoters pay who are we to judge?
