You might want to reread my post. I said when I DID get around to finally reading his trilogy, I imagined Mara Jade to look like Jeri Ryan.
I also imagined Captain Pellaeon as Kelsey Grammar but I think it was more for the voice than the looks.

However, Pirate of the Caribbean WAS a complete rip off on Monkey Island so Disney has already raped our childhood quite enough, without Lucas giving assistance.
I like how you're completely ignoring that Disney theme parks have had an attraction called "Pirates of the Caribbean" for ages, which Monkey Island was inspired by.

I always like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, which set the stage for Monkey Island.

Er, chicken before the Egg, I'm afraid.
Here, I'll enlighten you:
Disney did a generic ride called Pirates of the Carribean. There was no storyline (I went on it prior to the POTC films coming out) to the ride.
Ron Gilbert goes on it as a kid and it gets him in to pirates. now and fast forward 25 years and he's then asked to design a game about pirates and states, most of the look was inspired by that ride he had been on as a kid.
So that gives disney credit for creating monkey island does it?
Oh really.
in 2000, work started to make MI film, which eventually got canned within a year.
Ted Elliot, who wrote the storyline and most of the script for Monkey Island (13 years before the POTC Film) was, wait for it.....
...hired to write the script for POTC.
And just to solidify my point, here's from your boy Ron Gilbert's blog:
quote:
So, I'm looking through my neighbor's window with a pair of binoculars, trying to see the TV to figure out if they have HBO that I can steal when the latest trailer for the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie comes on and I'm thinking to myself, "Hey, I've seen this before... no... I've played this before... no... I've designed this before!" I'm thinking "This is the Monkey Island Movie!" Yeah, they kind of screwed up his beard, but that's LeChuck, and let's be honest, if I'd thought of the squid tentacles for a beard, I would have done that. So I rush out to my mailbox like an six-year old hopped up on Pixy Sticks with a Pop Rocks chaser figuring there must be a big fat royalty check waiting for me. No such luck. Two overdue credit card bills and a flier from some guy offering to Trim My Hedges, which I'm sure is just an innuendo for Wash My Cars, and I think we all know what that means. I tuck the flier away so I'll know where to find it later and head back to the house. I'm not worried. Disney will do the right thing.
POTC film was a direct ripoff of Monkey island.
Want more? (watch with the sound up)
And just to set you straight, if anything, the story from Monkey island was inspired by Tim Power's book, "on stranger tides"
But all those plot points are so overly generic. A "Daughter of the random highest military officer" dates back to the days of Homer, and that ghost pirate guy is as much a ripoff of LeChuck as it is of William Hope Hodgson depictions in The Ghost Pirates, published before Walt Disney was even 5 years old.
Pirate stories are generic because they borrow a great deal of plot points from eachother. To all of a sudden yell out bloody murder at Pirates of the Caribbean "ripping off" Monkey Island shows an infantile understanding of the genre.
