I went over to Holland for Trance Energy in Feb 2002 and had a great time. Though I have to admit it was lacking in some areas. The presentation of the party was great; venue was top notch, the rooms were nicely decorated, there was lots to do, lasers/lights were spot on. And Rank 1's live show (which was soooo much more than just the music) was stunning. I think the lineup was pretty poor though, and in general the DJ sets weren't anything amazing. Also the crowd didn't seem as "up for it" as I'm used to from UK events; very reserved and more concerned with how they looked than with having a good time.
I think the Dutch Trance scene is suffering from over-exposure at the moment. They've obviously been huge in the past but the dreaded commercialisation is setting in (as it is in the UK, I think they're just a year or so in front as far as this is concerned) and the people that go to these events just don't expect the same as we'd like. They're happy with the cheesy anthem-after-anthem routines and familier tunes.
Please don't think this is Dutch bashing, as I said I think it's starting to happen over here too. I just don't think the Dutch trance scene has as much to offer as it did 2-3 years ago.
