Sorry Slink, I kind of disagree. The only reason why these dinosaur DJs have lasted soo long is not only because of shear skill. I firmly believe it is because they were the first generation of superstar/superskilled DJs. There is only so long you can keep on setting trends before you no longer generate music that relates to the younger generation. Ultimately the new generation of DJs will find new and exciting ways to bring the music forward, they are in fact the trend setters, not the older DJs. Just wait and see

Excellent quote. Makes sense that the newer djs will be more in touch with what the people their own age (or near it just about) what or will want and love so they will do just that and find new ways of pushing the music envelope. But I will forever love the dj's that got me into the music to begin with.

That is soo true.. The first DJ that really got me into the scene was Judge Jules (ok laugh if you must!), hence why I go see him perform every time he's in town. I came into the scene pretty darn late, compared to many of you. I would say early 2001.

Holy sweeping generalizations. How can you categorize all dj's into "old dj's". Give me a break. So what, you're punishing them for being pioneers? I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna buy into the theory that because they were smart enough to buy 1200's they have lasted this long. (however that could be applied to such shit dj's as Acosta, or Spoon)

And how can you deny skill to some of these "dinosaur dj's"? Please! Digweed is arguably the most technically inclined dj period, Sasha, Danny T, Nick Warrren, and even Paul Vaul Dyk. These guys are fucking incredible, meticulous dj's when it comes to mixing, track selection and crowd involvment. Case in point, if you pit any of these "dinosaur dj's" you mentioned up against any neo dj's, you'd quickly see who has the talent, and that talent came with experience.

Respect the people who built the scene, and continute to revolutionize it on a daily basis, EOD.

Very true Jon however I think it is BOTH a combination of what each of you have mentioned (at least that's how it is now and in the forseeable future).
