Nice catch Matsui, shitty pitching but once again Igawa, and melke had a nice triple as i am writing this.

Steven, you may have been on to something with miggy at first. Nice dig he had in the bottom of the 6th.

It's no consolation bro whilst the sox are still winning...

I'm a little worried that we're on the verge of a slip to be honest with you - The next two weeks could be problematic while Schil's on the DL, even though our schedule isn't that tough (Mariners away, Rangers & Rays at home).

That said, Dice-K pitched himself out of not one, but two jams last night, which is a good sign considering he's had the tendency to melt down with runners on base.

One quick thing - is anybody else shocked that the Tigers still have Todd Jones closing games for them? He gave up 5 hits and 3 runs to the Nationals earlier this week, which escalated his era to 5.65. I think the Tigers, like the Indians and Yanks, should push hard at getting Gagne. Plus, he's on my fantasy team (though so is Jones).

Gagne....not sure that's the cure for any teams problems. This guy WAS great, but he's been injured for a while.

I'm just surprised that Jones can be effective period with his fastball topping out at below 90mph.

did anyone watch the game against sf tonight? I saw some of the highlights in the bar I was in earlier... it looked like quite a game, even tho the Yankees didn't end up winning. 13 innings... oof!

Wish I'd been in SF for this one (I'm in Nashville right now...). I live walking distance from the stadium (and work only about 2 blocks from it).

Rachel

haha....that's one of those baseball commentators bullshit remarks. If someone is effective as a middle reliever, i'm sure most will be effective as a closer. Middle relievers certainly come in the game in situations just as stressful as closers.

I agree. I think guys like Rivera & Eckersley deserve a lot of credit but let's not forget that, for the most part, closers come on in the bottom of the ninth, with nobody on base and are asked only to get three outs. For the most part, closers are way overpaid and too highly valued. In my opinion.

i couldn't agree with you more. Being put in the game with two men on and one out in the seventh inning when your team is up by one run is far more difficult than the situation you just described.
