The yankees had a minor leaguer playing in right field. I didn't watch much of the game, but im sure they ran on thompson.
Melke - teams don't test his arm as much as the other outfielders. His problem isn't strength, he has a canon, it's his accuracy. But he is consistently getting better. By far our best outfielder. Which is strange because everyone thought his outfielding was the flaw in his game.
Abreu - he gets tested somewhat because he's slow to the ball. But if he gets the ball they don't test his arm.
Matsui - he probably gets tested as much as a left fielder can. He isn't aggressive with the ball, and his arm isn't very strong or even accurate.
Damon - well, you're a red sox fan so you know, he's just pathetic. If he tried throwing the ball righty im sure it would go almost as far. I can't believe that there is a major league player who actually throws like a girl. There are girls in the College softball world series who have better arms than him. I bet if his throws were clocked they wouldn't top at more than 55 mph.

That's about as good of an explanation as I could ask for. And yeah, Damon's arm is a joke.
A Chicago paper reports that the White Sox are looking to trade Buehrle to us. I'm on the fence about this because I think we'd have to empty out the farm system. Of course, I think Buehrle would solidify our rotation for the present but I'm always uncomfortable about unloading talented prospects (see Hanley Ramirez in Florida).
That said, with the white sox struggling we may be able to pull off an A'sesque trade and get them to unload Mark for far less than normal. What are your thoughts on this? |
He's a solid pitcher and would definitely be a good pick up. His WHIP is insane, only 1.05 (the same as johan santana). I'm not sure what you have in the farm system, but he may be worth giving up two or three decent prospects. Maybe even giving up a fielding stud; i wouldn't want to give up a pitching stud though. He's only 28 so he still has a lot of future potential.
If the sox get him this year it would surely be Boston's WS to lose. That said, i think the mets will offer more. They are far more desperate considering their pitching has fallen apart, and pedro won't be back until august. Plus as a met Buerhle wouldn't face the white sox often (if at all), and the mets have a farm system full of good, very fast, fielding prospects.

speaking of hanley ramirez, could you imagine you're middle infield with hanley ramirez and this pedroia kid (who came outta nowhere to be very very good). But you also wouldn't have beckett right now. That would certainly be something similar to what the mets have with wright and reyes.
as of right now it's tough to say that ramirez for beckett was a bad trade because beckett is (i) young, and (ii) killing it for you. i would take solid pitching over good offense any day. But hanley is nasty. He and reyes are going to be the unquestioned best SSs in a few years.

I'm a little worried that we're on the verge of a slip to be honest with you - The next two weeks could be problematic while Schil's on the DL, even though our schedule isn't that tough (Mariners away, Rangers & Rays at home).

i just read something on this...Sounds like some BS to cover for some bad starts. The yankees do this shit all the time. The last case being abreu. He goes into a slump and all of a sudden he's injured (sore something or other). I don't buy that crap.

pretty close....actually, the game was suspended because the yankees came back to take the lead in the inning the game was called. If the yankees had the lead going into the 8th, and the game was called during that inning, the oriles wouldn't have to bat and the yankees would have won the game.
The key is that the yankees took the lead in that inning. The home team doesn't always get to bat if they are losing, only when they lose the lead in the inning of the rain out.
This is actually quite rare....i don't remember it ever happening to the yankees.
