Hope Argentina get their shit together or they'll be slaughtered worse than Brazil. |
No chance. They might well lose, and even lose something like 3-0, but they've been very tight at the back all tournament. In fact, that cautious, tight approach is probably the cause of their stifled attacking play, which is unusual given how attack-heavy their squad is but reflects how Sabella has approached this tournament. Keep it tight at the back, play with organisation and rely on isolated moments of brilliance to win matches. In six games they've only conceded three goals, two of which came in their win over Nigeria when they'd already qualified from the group.
The reason Brazil were slaughtered is they were completely gung-ho. Without his two best players Scolari seemed to abandon a cohesive gameplan in favour of trying to win the game on sheer team spirit and will power. He even brought in Bernard to try and whip up the local crowd. Brazil lost so heavily because Marcelo kept rampaging forward and leaving a huge space for Muller, because David Luiz cannot organise his own defensive positioning, never mind the entire team's, and because they all completely lost their heads when they started conceding goals so early having set up to attack, attack, attack.
Germany are definite favourites in the final but it could be a lot closer than you think. Thus far when Germany have played a big team they have scored an early goal which has allowed them to dictate the terms of the game. If Argentina can score first or they continue to keep it tight, things could be very interesting.

Brazil got slaughtered because the German's accuracy and completion of passes is the best in the tournament and not by a small margin.
When you look at the stats, the Germans have made nearly 400 more passes in their games and their completion % is the highest of any team. The next team best team on this front just so happens to be: Argentina
Just look at the goals against Brazil; nearly all of them close pass maneuvers right up to the goal, and totally selfless.
Guess which team had the highest pass % in the last world cup?
Yep. Spain, whose pass % in this tournament was dreadful.
