I'd rather cut my balls off than pay $550 for something like that. Asus is pricing themselves way out of their intended market, I think.
Also we have both the HP and the EEEs at my weekend job and the HP is just so much nicer in terms of build quality, and the glare thing, well, see every other laptop within the past 2 years. It's a non-issue unless you like to whine about things.
The performance of the CPU - well, yeah, the C7-M sucks shit but battery life is quite good. With the 6-cell in the high-end 2133 we've gotten close to 4 hours out of it with wifi and Bluetooth on, which is pretty damn good.
Plus, the keyboard is actually usable. Lets face it, unless you've got girly hands with little tiny fingers, typing on the EEE just plain SUCKS. The keyboard on the HP is 92% of full size, and you can barely notice it.
Oh yeah, it can run Vista - the model I've been toying with has Vista Business (it also ships with a copy of XP Pro). It runs Vista with Aero quite well, in fact. Yeah, the Chrome9 IGP sucks dogshit but it's about on par with the GMA950 for running Aero.
My only real complaints about it are the fact that holy hell does it get hot, and the screen resolution requires you sit quite close (1280x768).
I'd have to play with an EEE 900/901 first before I make a decision, but the specs on the 901 for what you pay aren't particularly great.
