I still don't like the idea of celebrity worship in any form.
Celebrity worship is a useless gesture which artificially inflates the egos of those worshipped despite how humble they may be. The Beetles are a classic example, why the fuck else would someone come out in those conservative times and say "We're bigger than Jesus Christ".
I prefer to appreciate and enjoy, but not go overboard with gushing admiration. It reinforces stereotypes and makes for bad Today Tonight stories about various forms of excess.
That said, I'm fucking amped about this gig. Another state, one of my favourite djs, a mad crowd, huge venue, great friends, it's shaping up to be a wicked trip. I just feel that a night isn't made by a dj alone. |
I think you're right to some extent, but at the same time i don't see a problem with giving recognition to the artist- I don't intend to start a religion for armin, but if i meet him i DO intend to tell him that he's my favourite DJ, because it's true- Armin's music makes me feel good: that's an important thing:
I understand a certain ego boost may result, but if he's been in the industry for 10 years +, and is still able to relate to the common man (see the vid interviews i've posted already), then that's another reason that i still like him (c/f tiesto)!
There are a shit-load of DJ's out there: i personally don't find them all playing the same thing the same way: armin's unique (from my perspective) and that's why i like him:

The guy is just a human being same as anyone else! He just exceptional at what he does in his field and I admire that and enjoy the way he entertains people. |
I think that's true, and that's why i want to thank him for putting out his music-- Without the shepherd, where would the sheep be? (yes, armin's conducting we, dressed in white!! )
an artist without recognition is nothing-- Music is a public form: should we all just stand in the corner, admiring his skills, and do nothing about it?
Edit (yes, i have more): I also like meeting "stars" because it's really humanising: meeting Tyas at pharmacy the other week was amazing, not just because I love his work, and his mixes (and i said that to him), but because he was really trashed, and it was just cool: he was really down to earth and cool as well, so that enriches my experience of his music now, knowing that
