There's a silver and black one running around my neighbourhood, they look much nicer in the metal than in pictures. Also sounds really good.
Still in the event I lost a frontal lobe and spent 1/4 mil on a car, the R8 wouldn't be it. Think they are bringing out a V10 one, so that might actually go as fast as it looks |
Isn't R8 more like 1/8 mil?

Yea but....Porsche? Have they ever made a car that looks even remotely good? |
I guess the kindest thing to say about them is that they're simply a practical design with a low drag coefficient and the latter models aren't too ugly.

Crashing at 200kmh into a lampost is more of a porsche thing than a lambo isnt it. Theres a reason why the (early) turbos were nicknamed the widowmaker :P 200kmh into a ligt or tree will do that for you ON the other hand lambos tend to be driven slowly, since the most important thing to do in a lambo is to look good (especially if youre italian), and nobody can see how good you look if youre doing 200kmh.
Actually just now i have come up with a theory. Everybody speding in a lambo within city limits must be incredibly ugly, since clearly they dont want people to look at them.
The problem with lambos though, is that you dont need to hit a lamppost for it to burst into flames... |
hehe, yep the older Porches are real terrors. I baby-sat a friends old one from the 1980's for a few weeks that he'd strapped a whopping big turbo onto, so that when you got to about 4000rpm it was THE worst turbo lag ever!
Whole back of the car would tramp down on its suspension, barely any weight over the front wheels and that really wasn't much fun when it came to doing important stuff like... turning corners or stopping its arse overtaking its nose.
Noisy little bastard too, between the engine sounding like an angry VW bug off idle speeds and the getrag's transmission chatter it was distinctly unpleasant little beast.
A few blocks from where I live a Lambo owner didn't have to worry about his catching fire, few of his dodgy Lebanese friends shot him about 5 times while he was sitting in it. Think he lived.

Not here, cars are expensive and the government likes to make them even more expensive with additional tax, so an R8 with all the options will cost you about 280k

Yeah, nothing like careening off the side of the road while boosting out of a turn.
To be honest, I actually have something of a soft spot for that old-school narrow operating range turbo setup. My brother has a Mazdaspeed 3, and its powerband functions along those lines, though not nearly with the same level of ferocity as the older model Porches.
