Ok lets go with your plan. We don't know wuts their price range when they have good Techs and Allen & Heath mixer well over 2,000 in today's prices. You say they can't afford 300 dollar needles to go with that? You dont know the story to that except the guy who posted the pic in the first place, but in assumption he does have the means just by looking at the pic. There is hardly any difference in sound quality when using m5g's just better tracking and golden RCA's. However needles, yes there is a difference in sound quality. So just lets be you and say yeah fuck him who cares what needles he's using, ok done next pic. |
I have a pretty sick setup (Xone 42, x2 MKII's, x2 CDJ-850) and I still use the Shure M44's. Yes, I spent a lot of money on my setup, but putting it into perspective, I don't think I payed too much for what I got. On the other hand, paying $250-$300 for a pair of needles, still seems quite expensive and I haven't been able to get myself to do that. So I don't think your theory holds very well that if you have the money for the equipment you shouldn't have a problem making that extra investment into the needles. Plus any money I can save I rather put into buying records.

Its only common sense, if you got the money get it and if you don't its not my problem. obviously if you have the amount of money that you spend on the gear then of course get ortofons, but it looks like you said that all your gear is second hand and thats exactly what i wasn't talking about in my theory that you mentioned.
Bottom line, if your gonna get best of the best (sick setup) get ortofons, and if your happy with what you have the i guess thats fine also. Second hand stuff with shure's makes sense, have fun with that.
