I haven't heard a genuinely fresh track from er... anyone for over a year, and certainly not a rising artist. Now that may be bull to you, but it's experience to me. Name me some tracks that have actually brought something new to the table. |
What exactly would you define as "fresh"?
I'd like to refer you to Ricky Fobis - No Regular.

So you're saying that these tracks are doing something totally new, something that breaks new ground and has genuinely never been done before. The last really groundbreaking artist was Public Domain, mixing togethor breakbeats, rapping, 4/4 beats, hard house elements, trance... When a Public Domain tune comes on you can tell its by them, cos it's hard hop or whatever they call it, it hasn't been done before. You're talking about music that sounds new and different, but is still made from the same ingrediants and can be placed in pre-made boundries.
A few years ago they were still writing the trance book, and hard house was being created from scratch. Until very recently there were tracks that didn't follow any rules, didn't use breakdowns as we know them, did stuff that was experimental, like Mauro Picotto's Lizard. There's nothing like that now.

I somewhat like some of the others you mentioned (street spirit remix is very cool), but for the most part melodic/uplifting these days feels to me like the artists are recycling the same stuff over and over again.

I think this is the second time this year it's died, actually. |

... just because epic trance is losing its glamour among some people, it doesn't mean the whole genre is dying. The sound may be changing, but art's not static |
Well said. Epic/melodic is pretty dead, but you can't forget about other subgenres. Listen to stuff by james talk or yunus, and you'll see what I mean.

i mostly listen to trance that was made in 2000-2001. not alot of good new stuff coming out these days, but im sure it will grow. |
Nope.
See how that's living in the past though? Not that there's anything wrong with listening to old stuff, but if you're a DJ or producer you want to stay on the cutting edge.
