tiesto's goosebumps make me wanna gag. if he was sincere, he would let his fans know they were special some other way at a different time.

this is nothing but a publicity stunt in the hope to hold the # 1 spot which he did not deserve in the first place.

i like more of his productions than i dont, i like most of his taste in music generally....... but he should not be a top 5 DJ.

its just a popularity contest. tiesto knows that, hence the goosebump letter hehe! its like an election..... tiesto runs for president again. hahahahaha!

Tiesto's version of Adagio sucks compared to Ferry's.

Also the reaction on my version of Adagio For Strings has been amazing. I made this just for the grand opening for Tiësto In Concert but people ask me to play it wherever I go. This past weekend I played it in Athens as one of my last tracks. It was near the waterfront in a venue with around 4000 people. It was 7 in the morning and the sunrise was on its way. An incredible moment I will not forget, 4000 screaming Greeks with hands in the air, sunrise and Adagio playing. I had goosebumps all over!. Moments like that remind me of the reason why I want to be a deejay...
Cheers,

Tiësto

HELL yeah :P

tiesto.. production-wise he has constantly made good productions (whether they be done by other people or not ) but ppl seem to forget that this vote has fuck-all to do with productions. #1 DJ means that they have to be fucking good when playing sets.

he has the right attitude tho

i voted marco v #1 this year.

when mixing accurately has to do with precisely matching beats per minute (BPM) as best a human ear can (BPM is different in every track), how fucking likely is it that two matched beats of two records at an adjusted BPM are going to also be in the exact same key?!?! EXTREMELY UNLIKELY. so if you think its so amazing that he can mix songs together in one key, guess what you have blinded yourself to: MORE THAN LIKELY, THE BEATS ARE TOTALLY OFF... woohoo, two songs mixing in key, with the beats all going to hell. what an incredible skill.

lol it's so funny when people that don't have a clue talk about in key mixing. in key mixing is not mixing tracks in the same key, do you have any idea how anti-musical and boring that is??? In-key mixing Tiesto-style is about timing, progression, building tension and cadential resolutions. Tiesto is a master at that. Going from I to the millions of possibilities in the harmonic pendulum in a logical and organized way is what makes Tiesto's mixing so effective in the dancefloor. An analysis of the harmonic patterns utilized will show you that this is what keeps the tension in the mix and makes him stand out far above the rest .

Jesus, welcome to the Internet. How can you be offended by that? Since you have no arguments or evidence all you can do is flame away and get all personal. Good for you.
When you talked about in-key mixing you proved that you don't know enough about music theory to even talk about it. Sorry, that's a fact. Mixing a bunch of tracks in the same key without ever bringing in any contrasts is pretty much the worst thing a dj could do. Tiesto brings it down and knows how to make progressions that work, with a very minimal approach to harmonic patterns that are worthy of the 21st century. His sets can go I-iii-ii-IV-VI-V-vii-I or whatever. They are never static. Most of the other superstars mix harmonically in a predictable and conventional way, which doesn't make it bad or anything, it just doesn't impress me as much as Tijs does. I don't think I know it all and I'm not making this up either, I have simply studied music for way too long and this is how I appreciate it. Hate me for that, who cares. But I can't help thinking the way I do.

notice ive removed my old posts. you're right, i guess i don't really know WHAT it is you're saying exactly with your argument because i haven't studied musical theory. im just a music lover, and understand it in an informal and personal way and have a good ear for it. i may not know theory but i taught myself without the use of books or lessons how to play the guitar when i was 14.

i do believe tiesto's mixing has some serious problems. there is obviously something in it for you to appreciate him so much as to think he stands out above the rest. this is where we disagree. i just don't see him worth a number 1 spot on a list that is about DJing because many others would come first.

Still, I enjoy a Tiesto set, I am just critical of his superstardom coming from DJing. He deserves a lot of recognition from the production side more than his DJing, which I consider lacking.

and by the way, i do not hate you. i just don't understand your perspective and have seen the argument posted too many times!

fair enough. it's great for people to disagree, it would be boring otherwise. the important thing is to keep the discussion civil. respects,
