Have to throw this in here:
| quote: | Linda: Hello, and welcome to coffee talk. Did you hear about my Barbara finally getting married to that hunk James Brolin. She deserves a man like him. She's like butter! Anyway, with me today, all the way from Manhattan, is my mother, Hedda Manischewitz. Ma, come on out here. (Mom enters) Welcome Ma. I love ya. How are ya?
Ma: Well my rheumatoid arthritis has been acting up lately… and you know how bad my colon is.
Linda: Yeah ma, spare us the details. So what's been going on in your life?
Ma: Well, ever since I divorced your stepfather…
Linda: You mean # 5 or #6?
Ma: Aw… so who's counting? As I was saying, ever since I divorced your stepfather, I've been depressed. (Begins to cry)
Linda: (Aside: She's vaclempt… discuss amongst yourselves... here's a topic: Watergate was neither water nor a gate… Discuss...) (Waits) But ma, you've been depressed for years. How long were y'all married anyway?
Ma: Six months, a year… I can't keep track anymore. The only reason I marry anymore is for the chutzpah.
Linda: But, ma. There's more to life than that. Don't you want to marry for money? I mean, I mean love?
Ma: What’s love got to do with it? (Aside: I always liked the way Tina Turner did that song; although she's not Barbara!)
Linda: You've got that right Ma... Barbara's like butter! Anyway, love... love is like a rose growing in the sanitary landfill of life. Love is like a Kleenex for life's runny noses… Love is like Preparation H for the… well, you get the picture… It's what makes the world go 'round, Ma!
Ma: Yeah, yeah, the last time I was in love -- with your father of course -- I ended up heartbroken. He left me for a newer model…I mean she was a runway model… younger than half his age. And, right then and there I vowed never to love anyone again.
Linda: Ma, ya make me cry…(Cries for one second and is then okay) Now I'm over it! (Continuing) Ma, open your heart, there's a whole world out there… Well that's all the time we have for today. Join us next week for a special interview with Barbara's first grade teacher. Good night. |
