Heh you must not have been into EDM very long, you get imune to such comments, or you eventually see the light and actually listen to techno a far superior genre, then your friends are right, by accident, or default heh,
Either way, this is a recycled post topic, doesnt take much to get this analysis, but it is not an accurate synopsis, no one goes from trance to jungle, it is not feasable, the junglists are exhip hop heads or scenesters they are often into the scene for different reasons than music and hedonistic quests.
I listened to Drum and Bass / Jungle long long ago, when i was a child, i did not drift into it from trance, trance was not my gateway, i began coming acrossed trance at the same time i came acrossed progressive, trance just had more OOOOH AHHH effect at first, then it gets burnt out, the few producers worth a damn stop producing for years at end, the style changes never endingly heading more comercial, save for the few pure trance genres, namely as ishkur refers to it ibiza trance aka Melodic trance, these are made up of many more strings than epic songs, have more complex layouts and are quality music, IE Rapid Eye - Circa Forever (Rapid EYE REmix)
Then there is goa, this is the best trance has to offer, goa and psy trance are the only places which original sounds of trance can be found, it is an exploritory amazing pair of genres, based heavily on drug culture which contrary to what people may try to state yields the best EDM, hands down, these genres are tripped out, energetic, fun filled, music at its best, and hence why trance can never fully die as it will always have its trickled spinal fluid in this backbone genre.
Finally while many drift to prog i have known about prog for about as long as i have known about trance if not longer, Many people seek progressive music as a safe haven to escape the endless redundancy found in many trance songs, the recycled layouts and endless attempts to push it over the top, blah blah just make for really bland wank shite, so often its the same bass line, same recycled synths, virtually the same melodies, while some reuse is understandable the lack of originality, or lack of quality in its own essence is the neverending downfall of the always growing always dying spawn that is trance,
As for bashing tiesto, why not? What has tiesto done that is so amazing, he followed the bare standard path of a DJ in a comercial genre, he was not a forefront runner of the genre, he did nothing that was not already done, nothing at all, his DJing ability is medium, his track selection can often be lacking, and his production is nothing to defend him in full, Tiesto grows older and older and what does he have to show for it? He may have his moment in the sun presently but his records, and his reputation amongst the longer running music buffs is that he is shit. As for his record label, the best thing going for him is that he houses DJ Montana, as Well as Andain, however these are talented artists whom could find signing elsewhere easily enough, and do have record deals outside of tiesto's grasp.
Present Day PvD is not as grand as he once was but he unlike Tiesto has done many things for the industry, he was a resident DJ when tiesto was still quite unheard of and he was producing trance tracks as we know them somewhat presently today for years. Until last year no coments were made about poor PVD sets, and he is much more well revered among long running trance heads, he has brought diversity to the scene in his music and is quality, lately he has been exploring a more comercial element but likely he will explore again soon and bring quality back.
As far as turning into a DJ, This is probably the reason most people grow to despise trance, Picture hearing endless recycling of all the trance elements as you shop for records, hearing endless suplies of epic trance, the songs you once went gaga for lose their luster faster than you could ever imagine, soon epic trance becomes unlistenable, it is in record shops where genre exploration is a likely side effect, In a practicle sense i think Progressive/Techno are more sensible genres especially in america, and while everyone rails on America the facts remain pure and simple:
America is the homeland for electronic music
America is the make it or break it place of music, you make it in america you have made it
Techno is more sensible to dance to, it has no massive synth breakdowns, Not sure what you people think but in my oppinion its easier to dance when a beat is present.... (Rank 1 is good example of minute long beatless break downs)
Progressive too has few breakdowns and steady rhythm, as well it suites small club enviroments much better than banging anthem trance, I guess just taking in the music industry as a whole in America, and talking to musicians, from all genres and fields, from metal, punk, and so fourth, to hip hop heads, to concert pianists, to DJs namely prog/techno as they are the only ones who actually have residency in america, well them and breaks/jungle DJs whom the hiphop scene accomidates more openly. Listen for a few more years, then reflect, there is a reason trance isnt as big as people think it should be at first, it is because the enviroments needed for anthem trance are not always plausible, especially with things like the RAVE act in place, and when the enviroments are created it competes against techno (Detroit wha? ) which is a US bread genre, and progressive, and from all expirience i have had hosting parties with regular folk, techno is recieved much better and people start shaking there asses alot faster to it, so even if you think people are stupid, they dont understand the music and so on, they have the money, and likewise a hop hop head, can easily shut many people down on the full analysis of the hiphop subgenres, as you would likely say rap sucks and they would agree then you'd be trapped heh. Welp thats my babble and like dollar fifty, lolz i think i went over 2 cents.
