i know im not one who you refered to, but i will speak on their behalf.... i dont think any of us think that the arabs are evil... all we are saying is that evil currently resides in parts of the arab culture today, and they are doing little if anything to change it, let alone admit they even have a problem.

as long as the occupation is there to "nation build" a future independent, self-reliant, democractic country that upholds the basic human rights then by golly i'm all for it

The nature of those countries was hardly as chaotic as IRaq was during their height.

And that was WW2... totally different motives and complexities involved in that time.

Who are you to forcefullly bring your way of living onto other societies?

of course there are differences, but there are also similaraties. regardless, as you've basicly just said occupation is not neccisarly bad... so your initial statement is invalidated

when it involves forcefully bringing my way of living to a society that mass murders innocent civilians just because of their ethnicity, then consider me the "all powerful" - that's who i am

occupaiton in and of itself is not illegal.

there are ways to properly run an occupation and ways to run it that are unproper.

Under occupation, both the occupants and the occupiers have responsibilites to make things "proper". There are laws of war governing occupation, and both sides can violate these laws.

I'm not up to speed on the Relativism issue, but I do think her Objectivist philosophy is hands down one of the more rational philosophies around.

Actually, I was wondering what your reference meant--I just picked up the Rand reference.

My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."

-ayn rand

Her undertones in her work is that of Moral Relativism ie to judge anothers actions is a form of centrism be is ethnocentrism if youre judging another society or culture, or self centrism.

Its the whole idea that there is no absolute morality to compare actions against and we are all going off of our own mores and norms.

The whole "who are we to judge" mentality.

Thats what I dont like Its an optimistic utopian ideology and shouldnt be taken seriously, and isnt in philosophical circles.

Funny, I think my interpretation of her philosophy leads me to different conclusions, or at least conclusions that I find extremely rational and practical, not to mention realistic. But I also see where her views can be a bit extreme--I think that's a product of her life experience.
