recently ive finished reading....
*Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann <-- not a bad book but its not one that appeals to everybody. above all, men. :P a depressing story but fun and trashy girly book to read. nothing ground breaking nor raunchy but im sure at the time when it was first published, it was an envelope pusher since it does discuss subjects that were taboo back in the 60s.
*Mystic River by Dennis Lehane <-- i struggled with the beginning b/c its extremely long winded and confusing w/ the numerous characters but once you get into it, its a damn good book. one that i completely underestimated. its a depressing book but a damn fine one. the book invokes so many emotions in you as a reader. i recommend it to anybody that has the time, patience and yearning for good novel/literature.
*The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown <-- a good and easy to follow book (not to mention suspenseful) but, i think some parts dwelled too much on inane details which in the long run made some parts tedious to read; ie. the keys to the crypts. oddly enough, i found the book in some ways educating/informative. but all in all, i was sorta dissapointed b/c it didnt totally lived up to its immense hype. good fast read but not something that youd call a great piece of literature. lacked something that i cant put my finger to. :P
*Acid Row by Minette Walters <-- not much to say. dont know how i came across the book. its an average book. nothing to rave about.
*Bright Lights, Big City by Jay McInerney <-- picked it up and reread it after first reading it couple of years ago. i think its one of those books that you learn to appreciate more when you are working and have a better perspective of how the real world is like. maybe i found it far more interesting reading it this time around just because i can relate to it better. in a way, its just a more mature version of The Catcher in the Rye though it will never be considered as "classical" as the latter.
Currently reading:
*The Chamber by John Grisham <-- surprisingly enough, its my first grisham novel. ive watched many of his movies that were adapted from books and enjoye some but my first grisham book. cant say much nor can i compare the book w/ his others but so far from what ive read, im enjoying it. if this is an example of grishams normal style and/or his other books, i think i may have to pick up few of his other books and add him to my short list of authors to read religiously. i hope the book continue to progress and not turn to shit towards the end like many others. lol...
