Something to consider: maybe some of the high-profile, high-paid DJs should take a break. However, as any artist knows, when you don't work, you don't eat! These guys aren't by any means on the brink of starvation, but in order to maintain the kind of lifestyles they're living, they gotta keep playing. And perhaps, they really love what they're doing! Many of the "global players" have labels and other projects that aren't making much money, but as long as they're out touring, those projects/businesses have a chance of growing. Just a thought...

I would be tired if i played 6 gigs a week like he did for the entire month of june for his north america tour.

Maybe now that he is slowing down again for the big shows/concerts he will step it up once again

Very incorrect.
Just becuase one wants PvD, Oakenfold, Tiesto and some other guys to quit doesnt mean that music dies.
There is more DJs on this planet then there is time to listen to everyone.
And music does not die just becuase Tiesto stops making remixes of his old
tracks (actually, it may just give music a push forward!). There is more producers out there then the "big ones".

Its like saying that the movie industry would die out because Steven Spielberg, Luc Besson and George Lucas retired.

but do you hear people pushing for them to retire?

there are reasons tiesto and such are at number one... its a popularity contest. remove people like them and we loose alot of fans. i dont care if they are all the people you dont like for whatever reason the point is we loose people in our music. the less fans the less people want to get into it and the smaller it all becomes. is that what we really want?

There is always new people to take over where others left off. Always.
Thinking that the edm scene would die because Tiesto and others leave is in my opinion unnecessary. It will not die because of it, it will problably evolve when new talents arise.

Coming to think about it, if Tiesto and other hot shots are the only reason EDM is alive then i think il pass on this "genre".

And yes, people in every field has been forced to retire or has received bad PR/cricism that has made them think again about staying active.
However i understand your concern but its not a big deal, really.

It's probably been said already , but when a DJ has a love for the music , it shows in their sets , I agree with the posts earlier , that some of the hi profile DJ's should take a break , I'd say it would do them some good to be off the scene and then return . Tiesto , very good DJ , but I'm tired of hearing of him all the time . Armin puts a lot of energy into his sets , well structured and good mixing , but as most DJ's , a time will come when he will get criticism for what he does . When listening to Oakenfold's set on the EM , I did with an open mind , but when he was mixing World is on Fire into Como Tu , I just lost all respect for him , but IMO , he was ok in the last half hour , but he obviously should call it a day .
