hahaha aii.. at the end of the day, everybody should realise,, oakey WAS a great DJ, probably the best ever, but his passion for trance is gone,, so... too bad, listen to his old sets, and reminisce as thats all we can do

I have just listened to that Sasha mash-up of 'Enjoy the Silence' and 'Wavy Gravy,' it is a released record recorded together interestingly enough, not a live mix as I thought you meant. An example of exactly what I was talking about with Oakey using a pre-mixed set of two tunes although slightly different I appreciate because it isn't a mix BETWEEN two tunes. Nevertheless, the same argument. It is indeed beautiful, and emotional. But in a different way. It makes me think of the good in life - in the here and now, in the moment, rather than the bigger picture like Oakey's sound.

Actually, what I think I mean is that the beauty of the layers of sound and music detracts from linking emotion with it. Maybe, maybe not.

some ppl r so far up their anuses i just can't believe it.I used to have a similarish kind of argument about jeff mills and how much of an awful dj he is.

Some people r saying oakenfold used to mix well years ago can anyone give me the link to a live set/set of oakenfolds where its a good hours mixing????cos ive listened to many oakenfold's mixes and each and every single one has been awful,im a dj who prides myself on thriving to mix the best i can i deplore such ppl like oakenfold who mixes so badly, but what i detest more is ppl defending him so vehemently like he is some kind of god.I don't care what he did/has done for dance music his djing skills r woeful

As for the person(can't rem who)said about emotion and sasha lacking it etc whereas oakenfolds sets have a lot of it,i don't see how this is a plus for oakenfold,i like hard stuff to mellow ambient stuff and if a tune is kicking i don't give a f#@k if its totally emotionless.

Oakenfold imo is a disgrace the thing i hate the most is his mixing to a lot of non djs will seem fine cos its seemingly mixed well and blends well
ie cos he barely mixes for a phrase i'd rather go out see someone who puts effort into his/her sets even if he/she double beats or makes a mess up of a mix or 2

and as for pvd being bland or whatever(in comparing him to oakie)pvds mixing is invariably brillant each and every time ok yea a lot of his sets i don't like but his mixing hardly disappoints me,and ah yea his musics all samey well thats all opinion, one persons style of music differs from anothers(obviously)thus it can't really be an argument as to how one is better than the other cos of variation or whatever its all opinion at the end of the day.

This is precisely the reason you prefer other DJ's. Oakey plays banging music which has a unique sound which no-one else has. That is why I like him.

I said Sasha has a different type of emotion.

exactly - you made a point there that i can never get people to understand - Oakey's mixing has ALWAYS BEEN SHIT. its only in recent years that hes stopped being able to get away with it. people saying 'oh but he used to be good' is such a stupid point to make & when you actually look at it, he wasnt.

Theres always some excuse from some oakey fan though. Dont know why they bother but fair enough...

uhh, way to question grammar in arguing against my statement! i simply didnt put quotes on your label of 'elevator music Sasha' beforehand - sorry.

as for Oakie producing better stuff than Sasha?... nice try.

Try Andy Gray, Oakenfold is one of the few superstar DJs that has hardly produced anything.

Sasha has almost always had collaborators in production, but doesnt hide them behind his facade. Charlie May, Darren Emerson, Brian Transeau and many others have worked with him in alias, behind the scenes or upfront. Oakenfold just plays music, besides his 'artist' CDs have never been near what he was actually capable when trance was breaking|

another thing about oakey that is irritating is the way that he steals tracks for perfecto. Take for example jan johnston - flesh. Its actually a Bt track - fair enough he is credited (in very very small print) but it was released after Bt left perfecto and under the jan johnston artist name which is very misleading...

and Oakenfold - The Prophet 1 - what a joke that is.

Generally oakey is a joke. Everyone else in the industry thinks he is a joke. Hes a cock as well, no one likes him, and so far people havent been too afraid to speak out against him. For someone that has 'done so much for dance music' he commands very little respect

You seem to forget that Oakenfold is pretty much the reason that dance music, WHOEVER is playing it is where it is today. Indeed, we will never know the course it may have taken had Rampling, Oakey and Holloway not gone to Ibiza, but in every article I have read about the history of dance music they are credited with shaping it as it is now. Do you not think that that commands some respect. Sure thousands of other DJ's and artists have taken it somewhere else, but look at the big picture.

Oh and Oakey started BT's career.

you listen to his stuff prior to 2000 and your blown away, although i've seen him many times djing he was crap only once i can say he was decent, he is great in the studio, but if he could just go back to his old style i bet he would still be the best (in the trance genre of course) i still listen to his old sets and all i can say is amaizing. but you're as good as the last set you spin which is horrible
