I can't speak for American's on the whole, but I am definitely amused by farting and shitting. I don't see a problem with it. I think God designed that aspect to be funny. I mean seriously, how much more perfect could it be. And I agree with Ali, farting is natural, but don't do it around people of opposite sex, unless you are extremely comfortable with each other.

I guess I second (or third?) you, as I don't (want to) do it around _anyone_ unless I'm sure they wouldn't mind.
