i agree. the story in the 2nd one is all over the place, leaving more questions than their are answers. valve should get new script writers.

perhaps. the premise for the story itself is a strong one but from my point of view, the STORYTELLING in the second installment wasn't very well told at all. i mean, does any HL2 player here know what the second game was about? we know enough from the first one that Gordon Freeman was recruited by G-man to work for him but other than that, what exactly does HL2 provide storywise?

not to say i didn't enjoy the game, i just felt the story element had the potential to be much stronger and better paced.

There are a lot of people who beleive that HL3 is already well underway, and being developed in complete secrecy like HL2 was. I'm sure that after the original release date fiasco, Valve won't be announcing anything until they're very sure of their progress.

I imagine HL3 wouldn't be too hard to produce at this point. The engine is done, and will stand the test of time for many years to come. They already have a shitload of content (textures and sounds).

Anyways, I loved the story. It's not spoon fed to you, but instead you have to take your time and be observant. I suggest reading this thread, it explains a lot:

Whoa, that makes me realize how ignorant I am.

I forgot to appreciate the fact that Half-Life 2 is attempting to be super-realistic...it's only natural that ONE person in the scheme of the world is confused and doesn't really know the whole story - it puts you in the place of Gordon, effectively.

WOW!

This game gets better and better!

edit: I hope we can look forward to some very neato expansions just like the original Half Life had. Opposing Force and Blue Shift were excellent (if not slightly short in comparison) games within themselves.

Maybe an expansion where you get to play as Alyx? How's about getting to play through the game as the Doc's pet headcrab?

Games are evolving. Gone are the days when a game could be considered epic and enthralling, but still consist of mindless shooting or stupid 'fetch' quests. I think that Half-Life 2 has once agains et the standard for FPS games to come, and all further installments of Doom will pale in comparison if they stay with the same formula. And so, people will analyze the Half-Life continuum just as it is a book or a movie because, essentially, the top games have just risen to such an epic status anymore. I think it's a really fun story about how science and intergalactic politics and espionage can be manipulted - there's also a lot of religious parallells and implications if you look hard enough. It's all about subjective analyzation - the game may be about shooting things and jumping over radioactive waste, yes, but there's also a lot of underlying depth to it as well - if you so desire to even consider that.

I'm just slightly bitter that I don't know the whole story yet.

I heard about some contriversy surrounding Half-Life 2, That you are required to be online, In order to play the single player, That I think its the dumbest thing, Not everybody who would by the game, Have internet access, And to force a person to be on the net, Just to activate the single player is just wrong, I know they are trying to do something about piracy, But that isnt the answer.
