You use a piano.

Or a keyboard, or possibly a program if you are that lazy.

Unless you actually know music (omfg a dj that knows music? do those exist?) and then you can usually know what key its in just by listening to it...

Try to play the song on the piano, find out the main key that way.

Well what part of the song, just the main melody? Bassline?

I'm not good at musical theory, so I'm not the best person to ask.

I guess it would be the bassline at the start of the tune, coz you don't mix in the middle.

given it isn't a music-based magazine, and it's directed to a market not particularly focused on dance music, how much more were people expecting? I find it funny you're all arguing over who should have given a scratching article, how much were you expecting to learn from a column in a magazine aimed at people who've never played before?

In the beginning there was Jack. And Jack had a groove. And from this groove came the groove of all grooves. And while one day viciously throwing down on his box Jack boldly declared "Let there be house!" And house music was born. I am the creator and this is my house and in my house there is only house music. But I am not so selfish because once you enter my house it then becomes our house and our house music and you see no one man owns house because house music is a universal language spoke and understood by all. You see, house is a feeling that no one can understand really unless you're deep into the vibe of house. House is an uncontrollable desire to jack your body and as I told you before this is our house and our house music. In every house you understand, there is a keeper and in this house the keeper is Jack.
