Since I got 7 out of 8 predictions right last time, let's see if I can keep that going.
Liverpool (ENG) v Juventus (ITA)
-Good on Liverpool for getting this far without many of starters. However, they're facing Juve, which has one of the stingiest defence. Liverpool's opponents so far didn't have solid defence. So, Juve wins, if Liverpool fails to crack Buffon and his defence gang. Juve 3-1 Liverpool
AC Milan (ITA) v Inter Milan (ITA)
-Probably the most boring, or most entertaining tie this round, depends on whether AC Milan plays turtle offence and Inter's array of offensive stars can break down Milan. However, considering how well Milan did against Man U and Adriano still not back in the groove, I think AC MIlan will prevail. AC Milan 3-2 Inter Milan
Lyon (FRA) v PSV Eindhoven (NED)
-The dark horses of the tourney face off and has potential to be very interesting. PSV's Vennegoor of Hesselink leads the attack with Mark von Bommel holding the fort in the midfield with veteran Cocu, young Koreans Park Ji Sung and Lee Young Pyo in support as well DeMarcus Beasley scoring in last couple of CL matches, PSV does have a chance against Lyon. However, Lyon impressed most people with their demolishing of their last opponent. Essien and Juninho, plus healthy Wiltord and Govou and Lyon's flowing smooth attacking style can hurt their opponents and I do not think PSV has the defence capability to hold Lyon off. Lyon 4-1 PSV
Chelsea (ENG) v Bayern Munich (GER)
-This tie is guaranteed to have some good action. Chelsea overcame Barca in a close fought battle and have proven that they can take on anyone. Heck, considering how much Abramovich spent, you'd think they can put together half decent team. Bayern Munich also has a good team with excellent players, but Oliver Kahn is getting pretty old and I'm not convinced of Bayern defence can stop Chelsea offence. Plus striker Roy Makaay is injured and I think he's out for a while.
Chelsea wins 4-3 |
Nicely done mate.
Olympique Lyonnais will certainly be a colossal barrier to either side from Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the semi-final, with a bit of luck we could be watching the dominant french side in Istanbul on the 25th of May. Lyon has the firepower up front to worry any European powerhouse, with the sexy attacking style of football they exhibit I would certainly put my money on l’OL to pull a major upset this year if there’s meant to be one.
One side that’s very little talked about is Bayern and that’s exactly what might play in their favor. The Bavarians are not regarded to be a major stumbling block for Chelsea and in my opinion this could a fatal mistake. Very little has been said about this team, Bundesliga does not relish the same coverage as the EPL, but Bayern is consistently atop of the division and I think Chelsea will find less space to operate than with Barca, it will be a much tougher game. I wouldn’t expect a slew of goals in this encounter, away goals could prove to be crucial. I learned today that 59000 tickets that have been put in circulation for the return leg in Olympiastadion have been sold in less than 90 minutes!
Enough talk about CL, we have WC qualifiers coming up this weekend, as well as some friendlies. Canada is traveling to Portugal for an exhibition match, anyone dare to predict the outcome?
I was close to heading to Brussels for the weekend for Belgium-Bosnia but I couldn’t work it out, if you need a place to catch this game John I’ll extend you an invitation to a fervent Bosnian headquarter.
Israel – France will be certainly broadcasted on tv5 international.
