Sounds like Wayne. If it is, that cats got some seroius dance moves as well, and i like his attitude about light shows. He gives them to people who want them, not to any and everyone who is tripped out on drugs. Plus, he actually works on his routines and knows what giving a good light show is. It takes practice and control -- that's what i think a lot of people don't get. They think it's simply about waving a couple of glowsticks in symetrical fashion over a guys head. Yeah, that's part of it but there's a lot more to it if you really wanna trip them out. So if you're playing with lightsticks and don't really practice hard nuff with them :

1) Don't go up and offer people a light show. You might be high and think all those purdy lights look good being whirled around in random fashion. The sad truth is, it'll look wack.

2) Don't tie those shits on a string and whirl them around in the same goddamn 3 motions that you think looks so good. Glowsticks on strings piss people off more then anything else cause they take up space and don't really involve much creativity. There are exceptions though -- but that's only with a handful of individuals who have figured out how to do some very cool moves with strings. In general, glowsticks on strings in the club = bad idea !

3) Wait for people to come up to you and say how cool you look with glowsticks instead of offering to show people who don't wanna see. It's one of the main reason people hate glowstickers -- damn candy kids are adamant about showing people a new way of drawing a figure 8. Not cool kiddies, not cool ! When you can bounce that stick from the heel of your foot back into the air, complete a 360 turn, catch it, then pass it around your head and arms, then come and show it to me. I WILL GIVE YOU PROPS !

I'm glad people haven't voiced the type of hatred i have seen some clubbers have when it comes to glowsticks. They are harmless, and during the course of a night they aren't as intrusive as whistles or the numerous other extranal factors that can potentially ruin your night.

Without the seizure inducing dancefloor lights, and glowsticks flying around all over you, it is less likely to attract the negative side of the drug crowd. Not saying glowstick's are a bad thing, but alot of the time, they simply appeal to the crowd that just wants to "get fucked up"

ANd yeah, it's an afterhours and yeah, there's alot of drugs involved in boa, but it also caters to the musical elite.

While I too don't like the dark underbelly of the electronic scene - I still *hate* that stereotype....just because you use lights dosen't mean you're on drugs or part of a bad crowd. *shrug* Oh well, all I have to say is....VIVA LA LIGHTS!

Thats exactly it Michelle..... we aim for a mature crowd. And having people sit in the middle of the floor tweaking out to someones 'light skills', is something most of our clientele do not want to be a part of. I can see its place at a big event (Guvernment, BEB, Cream, etc.), but it really doesnt have a place at Boa. I dont associate 'lightshows' with house either for some reason, its more suited for trance IMO.

I also find it VERY annoying when people feel the need to repeatedly ask you for a lightshow. And then, even with refusal - you have to put up with flaling arms and risk getting punched in the face (which has happened to me SERVERAL times).

Putting words in my mouth eh?

Of course they do,but they draw a significant amount of sketch bags too.

That's why I said alot of the time and not fully typecasting lightshows with drug use. Once again, more words being shoved into my mouth.

Not directing that comment to you Karim - just my frustration in general. I see using lights as a form of dance rather a side effect of drug use. It take s lot of practice, practice, practice and strength to use those things well and they work well with dancing to electronic - whatever kind it is. But that's just my strange Yank opinion....
