beatmatching?

Who gives a shit about beatmatching. In the world of DJing, that's like grade one arithmetic skill level. So what.

At the DMCs, you have SIX MINUTES to prove that you're the best DJ in the world. Who wants to spend it beatmatching?!?!?!? Beat JUGGLING maybe, but beatmatching? Please.

And let's not attribute worth and value according to equipment. Ableton? ...nah. CDJs? ....nah. Just two decks and a mixer. Let's see what you can do. Go.

The best DJ ever is DJ Jean. Does anyone have "that" sound clip?

This makes me wonder... why don't they hand the DJs a mic as well? They're bound to do a better job compared to some obnoxious MCs...

A mic, a turntable and an amp. That should decide who the best DJ is

however Ishkur, if you're at a DMC competition, aren't you classified as a turntablist? sure, you are a DJ, but it's not even the same league as to what i believe the topic starter was referring to. in any case, he should have specified, but if talking of EDM-specific DJs, i believe the best technical skills go to:

Frank Lorber. this kid pisses all over any techno DJ i've ever seen, even his "big brother" Sven Vath... sharpest mixing ever, 7 hour immaculate set of techno and electro on 3 decks. not a single beat out of place.

James Zabiela. well, yeah.

Sasha, smoothest mixing i've ever heard live, of course, this is now arguable with his digital setup and all, even though the innovation is pushed up quite a few levels, the technical value has come down, as he has aid in most of the technical aspects of the job. howver, when i saw him he had yet to go digital, so regardless of his current activities, i still believe him to be one of the best technical mixers.

Jeff Mills is really not that technically gifted. he has the gift of speed, doing a record a minute, but his mixing is not as clean as it could be. part of the technical ability is knowing WHEN to mix a record in our out, IMO, so just because you're doing it very quickly doesn't make it good.

tta, i'm surprised that you listed Danny Tenaglia as one of the best on your list. i like his stuff, but mostly due to track selection, have never really been that impressed with his mixing. guess i'll check him out, haven't in a while.

John Digweed i've seen live once, and even though his mxiing was quite surgical, i didn't feel it as 'tight' as it could have been. was rather dragged out if you asked me. he was having a bad night though.
