i call most chicks that... especially all my close chick friends!
its arabic and means "my dear"... techincally since im referring to girls, i should be saying "habibti" bc really "habibi" means "my dear" when referring to a guy while "habibti" is for a girl
but my friend who i picked it up from was Egyptian and he simply habibi'd everybody, men and women. Egyptians use very slanged arabic. one of my other buddies was from the UAE. youd always see them talking, but Teto (my egytian friend) would be speaking in english to Saif (from the UAE) while saif was talking back to him entirley in arabic. the reason being bc of teto's slang. he'd say shit and saif would be like WTF bc he wouldnt know it (and it was all just so common place in tetos speaking, hard for him to continually be thinking about whut he was saying and if it would be slang that saif would know or not!)... yet of course teto could understand perfectly whutever saif was saying to him.
it was alwasy great watching them convo like this, especially when shit got heated and they be yelling all over the place in res! funniest arguments uve ever heard, 1/2 in english, 1/2 in arabic! LOL.
anyways, i guess that more than answers the "habibi" question! Cheers Graham. cant wait to party w/ you next!

Hey, with all these Arab friends and knowledge of Arabic surely you have tried SHISHA before!!!
I used to live in Saudi Arabia and I always used to go with my buddies to those smoking lounges...my favorite tobacco is DOUBLE STRAWBERRY!!!
Have you ever been to a shisha place in Toronto? My favorite is Oasis in Scarborough. Kick ass place. It's my dream to one day chill out after a rave right there, with some of our own soft trance beats playing on their system...
I was reminded of this because the Montreal TAs are planning a "Global Shisha Gathering" and I had to mention it to my Arabic-speaking brutha!
