I'm sorry, I thought you were equating stability with unsuitability.

People said the same thing about the PC Party - "Canada's founding party" - and yet is was decimated in 1993.

There were alternatives then that were a lot closer in the political spectrum than there are today, not to mention the fact that economic considerations played a large hand in percipitating the 1993 election results.

Where are the Liberal- (or even PC-) supporters going to go?

Look at the detrimental economic effects Stephen Harper's indecision on how to conduct his party wrt. the national budget and it's clear the climate is a lot different in 2005.

What we neeed is an effective and vigilent opposition to hold the government's feet to the fire - regardless of who's in charge.

Yes, we do need that. What we don't need is an opposition that brings parliament to a screeching halt, eliminating the chance for any meaningful business to be attended to.

What worries ME is that people like you are more concerned about the opposition "playing nice" then getting rid of the corrupt Lieberals, who are ruining the country.

By "nice", I mean conduct becoming of an elected official. This includes refraining from personal insults and uncivil behaviour in the House.

I'm concerned with government governing for all Canadians, as they have sworn to do.

Again I'm confused.

At the CPC convention in March, the party rejected binding referenda. Harper also rejected calls for a referendum on SSM. I'm angry about that because I support referenda.

While the party endorsed an elected Senate, it also rejected equality of provinces in the Senate. Again, I'm angry about that because I support a Triple-E Senate.

The party also endorsed civil unions with full gay rights, while upholding the traditional definition of marriage. Yet again, I'm angry because I don't want children in fatherless or motherless homes as a matter of state policy.

It sounds like you have much more reason to support the party than I do.

I'm also angry at the CPC because they rejected things like:
-the flat tax
-fixed election dates
-ending the equalization program
-eliminating regional "development" agencies
-partial birth abortion ban
-elected judges (OR repeal of the Charter)
-private parallel health systems.

It serves the best interests of those Canadians who gave Martin the mandate to continue governing, it servers the best interests of those Canadians who elected 19 NDP MPs, and it serves the best interests of all Canadians in ensuring this very important piece of legislation will pass without putting it on hold until another election can be held.

The Lieberals scheduled the budget vote AFTER a CPC had surjury for cancer. That's what caused the problem.

Would you rather the vote be held after summer recess?

It's the opposition's job to hold the government's feet to the fire.

Only a Lieberal partisan would want to call the attack dogs off.

It's clear that you're very ignorant about the extent of the federal government's corruption and mismanagement. They have to go NOW... we can't afford to wait or "play nice." They certainly aren't playing nice... consider the Stronach and Grewal situations... or bribing provinces with our money.

They aren't going to go now. That is the reality of the situation. Of course I don't agree with this and I sincerely hope all those who played a critical role in any wrongdoing are brought to justice. However, the onus is on the Canadian electorate to bring about such a mandate... Can we afford the financial burden of another election and another minority government?

Don't call the attack dogs off! We need a healthy and active opposition. We don't need an opposition who feels it necessary to deprive Canadians of *any* business being heard in parliament.

WTF are you talking about? It's the Lieberal/NDP's bloated budget that could harm the economy!

Thank God we have an opposition that's putting a stop to a corrupt government. The government cannot be allowed to operate when they're this corrupt!

Like what exactly.

If it's a terrible budget, then it shouldn't be passed at all.

The Lieberals have lost the moral authority to govern. They've also spent or promised to spend almost $26 billion in the past three weeks in order to stay in power! We can't afford to wait to kick them out... they must go NOW!

Did you read that document?

Section 9: ...The Conservative Party believes in an equal Senate to address the uneven distribution of Canada's population and provide a balance to safeguard regional interests.

Section 10: i) A Conservative Government will consider changes to electoral systems, including proportional representation, teh single transferable ballot, fixed election dates,, and the use of referendums.

If it's a terrible budget, why are the Conservatives going to be voting in favour of it on Thursday after making such a big-to-do about it, even before the NDP agreement? (The part they are voting against is a seprate bill authorizing the additional $4.5 billion in spending.)
