There just seems to be far less crowd interaction when using Ableton/computers. I have no problems whatsoever with human error and limitations so I don’t really see the need for all the extra technology.
Seriously, why shouldn’t promoters just pay for someone to pre-record ‘perfect’ sets for events if it’s only about the music? Would sure help keep ticket prices down. We'd all be happy then hey? Smoothest mixing possible, lots of party tricks to the music, us all dancing to a computer...

Once the djs playing with ableton get over the learning curve they will be interacting more with the crowd bu there's also the reality of the fact that they are actually working much harder ( time wise ) on doing a set with ableton then with decks. With decks press play beatmatch fade repeat while with ableton you have to work at it a little more then just that; that is if you're putting any real effort into it ( same applies to mixing with vinyl too ).

I'll not enter in this discussion, but...
I prefer a dj using ableton and mixing perfectly than hear a dj trainwrecking with vinil and decks.. it's all about the incoming sounds...

pvd uses serato scratch does he not? still involves beatmatching with vinyl
but yeah was at global gathering on radio1's essential mix, i think he dragged the next track onto the channel that was playing by mistake, instead of the other one.. schoolboy error if that was the case

do you think beat matching is hard or something? beat matching does not take skill. there is more to djing that beat matching, get over it!

Course it does. Just like making an omelette takes skill. Not everyone can make an omelette, and then some people's will taste better than others.
But yeah, everyone can learn to make some kind of omelette...

I think this analogy would be more relevant for a pre-recorded CD. Some people actually enjoy watching DJs perform as well as the crowd interaction.

You know, this comment might have made since if you had just left out the last part in the parenthesis.

lol i like ur omelette theory. but making an omelette doesnt take skill really, or very little, it just takes knowledge. beatmatching of course takes a bit of skill but really not much :/
i hate it when people bitch and whine about ableton and such like as if beatmatching is the only thing that seperates a good dj from a bad one.
