i was studying for year 11 exams the next day

i thought the loss of life was terrible, and I was glued to the TV for a week, visually it was morbidly spectacular.

but to me it was just another terrorist attack; there have been hundreds of acts of terrorism in the last century and 9/11 was no more or less important than many other attacks on this scale

I was watching startrek or someshit at the time, then on comes sandra sully with a special news presentation. Called up my mate and we were talking on the phone while it all happened. We were pretty much in shock and taking the piss out of it all. He actually suggested I bring over a case and we have a inpromptu terrorist party. Come as your favourite terrorist sort of deal. Pretty fucked in retrospect, but was just our way of dealing with it I guess

the fdny along with other firefighters wear special beacons, or alarms rather, that go off when triggered by high amounts of heat + smoke . its an alarm that goes off so when a firefighter goes unconscious or is in need of help another firefighter can hear it and find his partner if he is unable to speak (its extremely loud) the next morning after it happened at the site (ground zero) you could hear hundreds of those personal alarms going off under all the rubble it was heartbreaking... you couldnt really tell where they all were it was just all around you as you were searching for survivors and after few hours of continuoulsy hearing it, i broke down...

Was in Science class.. about 12 years old I think? Teacher came running in telling us to turn on the TV so we did and we basically watched all day!

I was pretty fucking scared that night, couldn't get to sleep. But now that I look back at it I find it pathetic how everyone was fingerpointing right away without knowing anything.

They're called P.A.S.S. alarms (we call them pass alarms. It literally stands for Personal Alert Safety System). They go on as soon as the SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) is triggered. The way they work is after 30 seconds, if there's no movement, an alarm will go off (the noise you heard) after a warning beep or two. If you move before the 30 seconds, it gets reset and you don't have to worry about it going off. After it goes off, the only way to shut it off is to double click on the button on the PASS alarm (on the side). The system works on normal batteries (I believe they were D's...) so it dies pretty fast if the alarm is on for too long (we're talking 5 to 6 hours).

I was asleep actually since it was still rather early here on the west coast. My wife woke me up and told me the trade towers fell over and I just laid right back down and closed my eyes not really computing what I was just told. I started to process what she had just told me as I laid there and the gravity of what happened set in as I shot out of bed and turned on the TV to CNN. I couldn't believe it.

I was 18 and a freshman in a university in the ATL....straight off the island of Puerto Rico

it was early in the morning and one of my gal pals called (waking me up) to inform me that some plane crashed into a building in NYC.

I was like, "ok".... hung up and went back to sleep.

i totally didn't believe her.

In college, in the lunchroom, sitting about 5 ft from the windows, eating a burger and a soda (there are a bunch of TV's in the lunch room which normally are on MTV or some music channel).
