Again, I question why the ownership of nightclub establishments are not engaging their patrons, encouraging them to get involved and voice their support for the industry.
There is only a handful of clubs, club owners and club employees - however there are tens of thousands of people who go to downtown nightclubs on a yearly basis.
It is up to -all- stakeholders to get involved, however since it is the club owner's livelihood at stake - I'd expect them to put together an initiative to make sure that the regional governments hear the stakeholder’s opinions.
Resident groups seem to have no trouble organizing themselves - look at the results they get. The problem is that the resident groups tend to misrepresent what the "club scene" is all about (thus getting judgments in their favor).
Club owners, employees, patrons and supporters united under a single common voice, repeatedly, strategically and continually presenting a cohesive message of how important the industry is to the economy, how valuable it is to the citizens and how it contributes to a healthy city is the only way that these type of situations are going to be combated.
To conclude - there is a vast resource of patrons who care about their weekend entertainment options downtown Toronto. It is up to the club owners to group together and put forth a strategic plan to ensure that the "club scene"'s voice is heard by legislators.
Consider the impact if every club in the downtown handed out a flyer to patrons as they exited, explaining the situation and encouraging them to visit a website which would provide instructions on how and who to contact at city hall to voice support for the nightclub industry.
Consider the impact of handing out to every club patron a postage-paid post-card, already filled out and pre-addressed to city hall, with a spot for the patron to fill in their name/address/phone and drop into a mail box, stating their support for the nightclub industry.
If one seeks change, one must be willing to organize.

I'm commenting on the disgusting sentiment to bulldoze the island homes... this isn't Palestine you creeps. |
When they call for extreme measures, so do i.
The fact is that they cant seem to live with their neighbours so why should others have to live with them?
They are already practically squatting on that land save for a "shut them up" agreement the NDP made with them in the early 90s.
If they want peace and quiet of northern ontario, i suggest they move there. Same goes for the idiots that moved into the club district and now complain about the clubs there.

Hey, I don't smoke, so I could give 2 shits less about it. But the smoking bylaws are getting ridiculous. |
you may not care about smoking but the same mode of thinking is being used in the docks case as well.
