"According to a survey conducted by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), football's governing body, published in the spring of 2001, over 240 million people regularly play football in more than 200 countries in every part of the world. Its simple rules and minimal equipment requirements have no doubt aided its spread and growth in popularity. In many parts of the world football evokes great passions and plays an important role in the life of individual fans, local communities, and even nations; it is therefore often claimed to be the most popular sport in the world."

US is very good at soccer and will do well this summer, so i dunno why there is a discussion about them not being good. Let's not forget they've performed better than France, Italy, Argentina... etc. at the past world cup, they're ranked like 7th in the world right now by FIFA, and their keepers are tremendous. |
First, thanks for allowing the flaming. Second, it's not soccer, it is football, so join the rest of the world and call it what it actually is. Third, I don't know whether or not US will do well in the WC, they are in a tough group. Italy and Czech Republic are the teams I think will advance. Fourth, I've not forgotten about their last WC, they took Mexico out. Fifth, the ranks of FIFA suck. The US and Mexico face easier teams than the national teams in Europe. Don't rely on that to determine how good a nation is. The only accurate position in the rank is that of Brazil. Sixth, the goalies are indeed good in this country. They train them like soldiers.
I don't think the US is bad but their style of playing sure puts me to sleep.

One of these - Czech Republic/Italy - will not be in the 2nd round. And it will most likely be Italy because they'll do something stupid like bring Del Piero and Vieri for the ride. I know DP is in great form right now but players like Luca Toni and Alberto Gilardino.. I'll even go as far as Iaquinta.. deserve the spot more. And Vieri is just nowhere to be found... where is he in France now?
