might want to have a talk with some DJs & promoters about that one.
it has done more than "just change". It went from booming and being accepted as the most popular form of EDM for a while, to just becoming a bad word and plunging in popularity and demand.

**For the record** because you have a thriving trance scene in your headphones or on your home stereo speakers, or on your computer, or that there are still people that go to godskitchen or to see Armin or Tiesto, does not mean that the scene is doing great. It's certainly a fair amount stronger in europe, but it always has been and even there it's not quite as strong as it was before.

It also has little bearing on me because I'm a lot more concerned with the north american scene which has taken the worst beating.

Thread title...case in point. I LOVED trance music. From about 1999 up until the middle of last year, it was everything that I loved. I hate to reference another thread, but Tiesto at Trance Energy in 2000. I was 14 years in 2000. In my middle school (grades 6-8), trance was not popular during that time period. This was during the height of his popularity. To get back to the point of Tiesto's Trance Energy set in 2000, it was AWESOME track selection. As of lately I am not so impressed with whats going on in trance music. I have been listening to more house music recently, maybe that is why. It just seems more...realistic..at least in my opinion.

Dont get me wrong, I still listen to Global DJ Broadcast ((recently I have been fairly impressed(all shows from "ibiza"), especially with the guest djs)) every week and have my fill of ASOT from time to time. The random trance liveset off TMB (may it rest in piece, or come back twice as badass). I have bought trance records recently, but definitely not as much as I did previously.

Chalk it out to a matter of change in personal preference if you want to, but I still listen to a fair amount trance and prefer house. More house songs have an ability to make me jump around (rock out/dance if you will) than trance.

THE QUALITY of trance died years ago

"trance" lives on so long as ASOT and Anjunabeats live on

It's becoming harder and harder to find quality trance as most never even gets released...i hear so many good demos on radio shows but they never find labels, prob cus labels cater to the ASOT and Anjuna sound to survive cus its all that sells today.

So yeah, "trance" lives on, but QUALITY trance is pretty much dead...becoming mainstream will do that, generic crap for all!

Well if that is not trance, then maybe I don't like trance. Maybe I like progressive. I don't really know what genre names mean anymore. Whatever is on ASOT 2006 is good music, trance or not.

Btw, trance really isn't "trance," if trance did what it was supposed to do, there would never be anything that "grabs" you. Trance should put you into a trance, and I can tell you Gouryella or Armin have never put me into a trance, just engaged me, which is what music should do. A TR-909 alone would be trance music, because it would put me into a "trance."

Why don't we just call it what it is?

Oh, I could give a rats ass about the show. Its nice but I'm not tailoring my sound for anyone. Even if I never get big I'm not going to be a soulless drone making mass produced shit :-D
