Overall it was a decent night - not the best show he's ever put on in NYC. It was relentless and banging like everyone said but it just felt like something was missing. I know Zabs is technically gifted and I love all his little tricks but I feel like his reliance on all this gadgetry has made for a technically experimental sound that isn't musically diverse. I guess what I'm saying is that Zabs' set programing has gotten less interesting and less varied ever since he added all these gadgets to his standard 3 cdjs and an efx setup. I remember a funkier, proggier sound a few years ago that I just don't hear these days. I guess in the end it's also a consequence of the type of music that's hot and available these days.
Oh well, I still enjoyed myself. Looking forward to the next time! |
Word. I feel like he'd never play something like Polychord - Mai Thai Night now. But he's still my favorite. I need him back soon... His next small US tour doesn't stop any where around here either, so I'll have to wait another 6 months before he's back, most likely.
