to charlie loyd:
I did the same thing you did when i first joined TA. I jumped on the first immature post and got all philosophical with human rights and free speech and all that shiat. what you will notice after some time here, is the maturity level here is very low. those 3 overly wordy reaction posts you made were way overboard for a very small offense. you should see how ridiculous these friggin kids get here, its like monkey's throwin poo at each other defending their favorite djs. and i disagree i dont think theres that much bias in what they were saying in re: to the vienna tracklist.
on tiesto 2006: I don't know where you guys are looking but I've heard plenty of sets for 2006. theres a shoutcast station that plays nothing but 2006 livesets for example, and youtube.
IMHO: tiesto was at his peak in 2004, especially with the concert. in 05 he was ok. lately in 06 he has been better than ever. in 06 he has a very unique sound, he's playing some electro house sped up to trance pace which I've never heard anyone do yet successfully. he's done the search for sunrise5 and tour with great success (i saw him at wmc and was not too impressed, but when he played locally here in tampa it was completely insane, people almost got hurt he worked the crowd to such a frenzy, people were completely soaked in sweat, ive never seen the hardest of rock concerts get that crazy). he's doing this dance4life thing to fight aids (very commendable, and *potentially* more effective than pvd's political opinions with this politics of dancing theme). he did a massive event for the kick off of the nature challenge boat race where there were speakers laid out for miles around a city and giant pyrotechnics *actually in sync with the music*. and theres the pirate song remix which now has people wearing pirate hats in the crowd (haha, i think thats silly but whatever). he almost never cancels or misses a show. most of the 2006 livesets ive heard from him have been some of the best yet (loveparade2006 set sucked tho). he just keeps getting better its ridiculous, theres no stopping this man he's like a machine. point is, all these things happening in 2006 makes me believe its a no brainer that he will be #1 again in the djmag poll.
he's never been a technical skills dj. if you want to have perfect transitions and a perfect theme of build/flow in a set, you need to plan your set with tracks that sound similiar and gradually progress. the problem with this style of trance is if the crowd is not into a track, you are basically forcing it on the crowd because its all part of your plan. the crowd pleasing style is immediately playing a tune you can tell the crowd will like based on their current reaction and reading a crowd. this is what he does better than anyone.
