Hard Kandy - Nik Fish (a sentimental favourite, if he plays hardstyle not so good, if he pumps some good hard trance, will be a wicked night, support from the regular kandy djs)

24th November

Slinky - Marcel Woods and Johan Gielen (yet to be to a slinky event should be done well, Gielen is a trance energy resident, love his tune with svenson "twisted", fairly trancey and techy not sure what to expect. Woods very techy, worth going just to hear him drop advanced)

24-26th November

Earthcore - Mark EG and Nick Sentience (never been to earthcore but know enough that it always delivers, plethora of acts and dj's. Mark EG, hard techno, hardstyle nutter! heard stories of him smashing vinyl and breaking beer bottles on his head, grab tidy - music for a harder generation 4, to get hear what hes sounds like, have seen sentience twice, first time was good, second time at pharmacy lost the crowd at the start, then dropped some anthems and people went nuts, then sort of lost it at the end, i think he vj's as well, a la ilogik, also ventures into psy trance, will be interesting, odds are he will deliver.

I obviously don't like hard house as much as I thought I did, if he's the "saviour" of the genre. And I like a lot of hard stuff.

There's no denying the man's skill, but if I had to listen to tunes like that all night I'd go bananas, and not in a good way. Quite a few tunes on that demo were tracks (or remixes of tracks) more than 5-6 years old, which was a period in hard house that I found particularly annoying. I've also never been much of a fan of that horribly cheezy happy hardcore-ish sound. Bits of it reminded me of the Nick Skitz mixes from years ago, and I hated them back then. Hoovers and rave sirens are all very well but... I dunno. It would appear that if the the genre has moved on at all, it hasn't moved in a direction I like. There were a couple of bits I liked. (Legend B - Lost in Love, circa 2001)

Is this demo indicative of what Andy Whitby plays all the time?
From this small sample, he couldn't topple Eddie Halliwell from the pedestal I've got him on.

Thanks for sharing it though, it's always good to hear what else is out there.

Oh and I think I've worked it out - 145 bpm is about my upper limit, any faster and it just gets too relentless for my old bones.

I totally understand where yoor coming from, I've listened to the demo a couple of times and I agree some of it is too hooverish, too bouncy and tad too hectic.

However I am yet to see him live, but I would compare him to proteus (not in musical style obviously) because I have the pharmacy cd mixed by him and I rarely listen to it and never the whole cd, but seeing him live is another thing the most energetic set I have ever witnessed, unbelievable, anyone there would agree. I have seen some live footage of whitby and the crowd is the same, im positive live h e would be out of control and would live up to expectations.

My second point is that over the last couple of years, many djs and I won't name them, became obsessed with playing "intelligent music", "techno influenced" and "breaking new ground" and basically way too serious. where as Whitby went fuck that, bring back the energy and bring back the fun.

Thirdly, technically he is amazing, his technical skill is what he is renown for.

Finally, yes there is alot of old tunes, but people love it because it reminds them of the days when hard house first became big, back withn trade was massive, the start of the tidy label, and the first couple of tidy weekenders. For example I believe adagio for strings is way over done, but when sentience dropped tiesto's mix at pharmacy, everyone in the place had hands in the air, it was beautiful, so same with whitby they may sound old on his demo, but live they probably bring the roof down.
